Yep, that's a used wet wipe.
This was taken at Ivinghoe Beacon, a popular beauty spot in the Chiltern Hills. I'm guessing at someone, possibly a parent, has had to deal with a call of nature. Fair enough, that's a thing that happens. What's less fair is leaving the mess lying around. It doesn't just vanish. In this case, it's going to get used for nesting material - this kites chicks are going to be growing up in someone else's filth.
Not the nicest photo, but im sharing it to try an raise awareness, hopefully someone who sees it might make a different decsion when they are 'enjoying' the great outdoors.
Walking the dogs yesterday evening around our local woods & park. Lots of people out enjoying the sunshine, being sociable, having fun ... Which is great ... But then some of them leave stuff on top of / around already overflowing bins!
You brought your stuff in to the park. If there's not enough space in the waste bins, F***ing take it home with you!
But then some of them leave stuff on top of / around already overflowing bins!
This is nearly every bin near me, unfortunately, the overflowing waste is usually dog poo bags. When the bin is full, folks just drop them on the floor near the bins, so the rats and birds get at them and then its literally sh1t all over the place.
Out for a run yesterday, and a runner in front of me chucked a plastic bottle into the hedgerow. Made my blood boil so I picked it up, chased after them and handed it back...next to a bin. I may have suggested a better receptacle than a hedgerow. I was as polite as I could be only to be told to "**** off you wa***r". Got a segment PB though.
I don't dosagree with you about taking it home.
But i do wonder why councils don't put better bins out in hot spots. All of that would fit in an IBC with room to spare.
People are grim; but councils need to get on top of it too. More bins, emptied more regularly; because if there's any (even token) excuse for not putting things in a bin - like the bin being full, or not visible - people will take it.
Our local council is just as bad at this - there are bins on the seafront and nowhere else; so huge mounds of dog sh*t everywhere through town. It's vile
People are grim; but councils need better people living in their areas
Litter has been something I've hated since I was little, my Mum once lost me in a shop as I'd stopped to tidy up some clothes that had fallen off a hanger.
I recently saw a guy drop his rice crispy squares wrapper on the floor, so I picked it up and slipped into into his shopping bag with an "I think you dropped this", he took one look at me and the dog a decided not to argue. I also saw a teenager throw a McDonalds cup out of a car door as she got in before they pulled away, I placed it back on the roof for them, it was still half full. There's only one thing worse than litter and it's people.
Some places don’t have bins. The reasoning is that people take responsibility for their own rubbish and take it home, if a bin is full, people do as above and pile it up next to, or on top of. This is because the responsibility has been shifted to the Council so if the bin hasn’t been emptied it’s not the fault of the individual.
That's horrible.
Litter literally blights my day, every single day I would say. It's everywhere and I hate it and can't not see it.
I went on a litter pick up the river yesterday with the dog. So much plastic in the trees at high water mark. Makes me think about all the litter that we DON'T see 😔
In some ways I really don't like the warmer weather coming because I know without fail it means t****ers going into the parks and countryside, having picnics and barbeques and leaving their shit everywhere.
It's grotty behaviour.
Makes me increasingly dejected out on the trails to see litter from other riders; the odd bottle that's fallen out of a cage, or a wrapper out of a pocket is a given, but the last few years has been far worse.
We're just not a nice society.
The increasing 'trend' around here is for individuals to create their own 'bins' by hanging a plastic bag over a branch or gatepost or similar. Folk then use it to dump their rubbish into - mostly dog poop bags - and then moan because the council hasn't collected the full plastic bag and there's a build up of rubbish all around the bag now... Aye, that's because they're in the middle of wooded areas or out on hillsides - there's a reason why council don't put bins there. Take your own shit home with you 🙄

We get loads, literally, of fly tipping round the wagonways near us. The council do remove it fairly swiftly once its reported, but no-one ever gets caught, not that gets publicised anyway. It's a real shame as the hedgerows are constantly full of rubbish. We have some amazing volunteers who regularly collect up litter round the village, in fact, there's lots who do it all over the region similar to RNP.
When both my wife and I are walking the dog together she will often get her bag hoop, bring a bag and picker to tidy up as we go. As the dog is a reactive rescue we can only do it when we are both on walks together though, she is not an off lead kind of dog.
