I've got fed up going to the gym and I've been increasing my running mileage and would like a rowing machine to add some cross training.

From my rudimentary research it seems a Concept 2 is the way to go. Not sure if this will be overkill for me though. I'm gonna have a heart rate monitor on and not too fussed about any of the metrics as I'll be mainly using it for Zone 2 stuff.

The water rowers look ok but I've no real clue what I'm looking at. Happy to spend a bit as I'll be sacking off the gym membership.

Are there any other off brand models that might fit the bill?

Concept 2 is the standard answer to this, and is the only one I’ve ever used. Some of the water towers do get good reviews though.

Prices and lead times aren’t quite as bad as during covid these days.

Concept II or water rower. Older ones should be fine 2nd hand. Parts used to be easily available 30 years ago when I rowed a lot. The basic metrics are helpful. Pick a pace and sit there until bored silly. 20 minutes is OK. An hour is mind numbing sat at a steady split.

I'd be more interested if there was a zwift for rowing.

Here's one I started earlier. My wife loved it. Got into some training plans and alternated between 30 and 60 minutes sessions.

Then she got sick last year and still hasn't really got her mojo sorted.

She got the latest Concept 2 model which syncs with a phone, etc.

I'd be very careful unless you are experienced at rowing. Big risks of hurting your back.

Or do the Concept Workout of the Day and make it interesting....exercise doesn't have to be boring

We've got the default Concept 2. If it's good enough for many commerical gyms and health clubs, it's good enough for Mrs a11y. I've used it occasionally but I'm not a fan of indoor exercise and get bored quickly.

But the Concept 2 is great as far as rowing machines go.
