I fell off the bike about 5-6weeks ago, and the shoulder has been hurting ever since, the doctor has said a rotator cuff tear.

has anybody got any experience with this injury they care to share? recovery times etc.

It all depends on the severity. Did he refer you to physio? If not go back and ask for a referal. It is effectivly a sprain so can take months to heal and often like mine never fully heals. No pain anymore but restricted movement ( very slight)

If you can raise you arm above shoulder height then it should heal of its own accord. Will take quite a while though as it's a soft tissue injury - upto 3-4 months.

If you can't raise your arm above the shoulder then the tear is likely to be too big to heal by itself and an operation is likely to be the answer. Keyhole surgery - in and out on the same day.

If you fall into the second category get your GP to refer you to a specialist.

I`m being refered to bupa.

In certain positions i cannot raise the arm shoulder height, if I try to rotate the arm I can feel a lump to the front of the shoulder and its very painfull and gives quite a click as I tryto rotate it, the doctor seems to think its a large tear.

Has anybody had the surgery to repair it?
