We live in a bungalow which has a conservatory attached - all done well before we moved in. The conservatory roof is joined to the sloping main roof via a sheet of lead flashing which is in poor repair at the corners. The top edge of the flashing is under the roof tiles and the bottom edge rests on the conservatory roof, so in principle rain should run down the roof, across the flashing and across the conservatory roof.

As I said, the corners are in poor repair so I asked a roofer if he could fix them. He told me that it would be better to remove the flashing and tile from the roof do the conservatory. I’m not 100% sure what he meant, but anyway it made me wonder what is the best way to connect a conservatory roof to a sloping house roof, and what sort of expertise is needed. I’ve been burned in the past by bad tradesmen, and I’m not keen on repeating the experience.

Any experience or advice received with interest!!

I am not sure if this helps at all but this is how our conservatory is connected to out kitchen extension. (Yes, I know we need to clean the moss)

The conservatory is single story butted onto a double story house, so a bit different to yours, with the single story kitchen extension running down one end - this is what is in the photo.

The white bit is a plastic cover over lead flashing that runs along the vertical wall of the main house.
The lead flashing on the extension is tucked under the roof, down the 4" drop to the conservatory and then over the last white support beam of the conservatory. The lead is only resting on to of the glass I think so I guess It could be lifted up but seems fine.

It doesn't leak and is about 10 years old.

There's a typo or missing words in here...

I have a bungalow and want to replace the existing conservatory with something that will form part of the house.  Your roofer is saying he wants to cut into the existing roof and continue to the conservatory roof.  I ve seen it done on a few houses, it looks ok if it's a single elevation and the tiles are matched.

I can recommend replacing the acrylic/glass roof with a lightweight tiled one if this is an option for you.

Totally transformed the tired conservatory we inherited in the new gaff.

We had a box gutter on our conservatory, it’s basically a folded alluminium channel that lets water run off both roofs into the box gutter , ,fixes to the roof joists

Thanks as always for the advice. I like the idea of replacing the old plastic roof with something nicer but to some extent I’m concerned I may be polishing a turd and the whole thing might need replaced at some point.
