I would have said please, but that spoilt the alliteration.

Off to Rome in September with t'wife, so some posh food would be good.

Not too fussed about cost but no where that requires jackets/ties as we'll be hand luggage only, so that probably rules out Michelin places.

Ta.

My brother in law is italian and his parents live just outside Rome. My mate is going in september too and so I emailed him asking for advice...here's what he said:

"My favourite restaurants are all in testaccio (at the back of the circo massimo which is the roman race course). These are Perilli on via Marmorata; Felicetto which is on a road off via marmorata (you will have to book this one a while in advance) and checchino in via di monte testaccio (in the old slaughterhouse, a little bit more expensive but good price for vakue as it has 1 michelin star). There is also a very good pub on piazzale testaccio called l'oasi della birra (small and difficult to get in though due to its size)

Good pizzerias are montecarlo (vicolo savelli off corso vittorio emanuale) and baffetto (via del governo vecchio) both have rushed service which you could argue is part of the experience. Dr poeta in vicolo del bologna trastevere is also good

Cul de sac (piazza pasquino) ad roscioli (via monte della farina) are good wine bars with food. The best ice cream is San Crispino (near trevi) followed by giolitti near Il Patheon. The best coffes are at Sant'eustachio (piazza sant'eustacchio massive queue but they are quick), il bar della pace (beautiful place at the back of navona) o l'antico caffe greco (on via del corso) - remember that in bars if you sit down everything costs 3 times as much. If you would like brunch the best places are on vicolo delle coppelle or piazza delle coppelle at the back of navona

Other good restaurants are armando (near the pantheon); ditirambo piazza della cancelleria; filetti di baccala (roman fish and chips - great place) largo librai off via monte della farina; il fico on piazza fico; augustarello via giovanni branca.

However remember if youa re going in August 3/4 of these places will be shut! As romans will be at the beach"

He does have expensive taste so some of these could be pricey.

Brilliant, thanks a lot for that. We aren't going until September, but i did think some places might need booking, hence asking now.

When I went for a few days I ate in a fantastic place called Veneria il Chianti. Beautiful food and the best pizza I have ever had. Its not far from the Trevi fountain, along a street called Via del Lavatore (nice). Looking at the fountain, turn right 90 degrees and keep walking. Its in an setback in the buildings on the left hand side.
