My dear Dad, after many months, is having a robotic radical prostatectomy performed very soon. He is very glad to be having the operation, but, as he has never had anything of a medical nature to concern himself (well, apart from his rheumatoid arthritis) he is also a tad apprehensive.
So...STW'ers, what have your or those close to you experiences been with such a procedure.
I'm hoping generally ok...but any hints or tips I can attempt to share with my Dad?

I think thats what my brother in law had done. By my limited understanding it gets much better results with much fewer side effects than other options
I don't know what my dad had done*. But it was very successful and being very fit and healthy he was back out and active pretty quickly.
To be honest thought it was somewhat overshaddowed by then being diagnosed with lymphoma and after kicking that in the bum he's now waiting for an operation to stick his heart valve back in place.
* it was definitly an operation, not sure on wether a roomba was used.
Watching with interest as I've got to make a decision whether to go down this route or one of the radiotherapy routes.
From my understanding and if its what my brother in law had the surgery is a good option - they use minature robotic waldos and manipulate them on a hugely enlarged screen so they are able to do the surgery very precisely thus being able to get all the prostate out without damaging nerves or sphincters so you have a much higher chance of retaining continence and not being impotent without leaving potential tumor behind.
If it was me I would be asking the guy doing it how much he has used the kit and how good his results are.
everyone is different but I think this procedure is a game changer in terms of results - but remember this is way outside my expertise.

Ps removal is only useful if the cancer is still contained within the prostate.
The clinical outcomes with the robot are far superior to having one done open. Although not a medic I have spent the last 12 months persuading the powers that be to let us buy one as they are a bit pricey😳 it’s coming in a few weeks
@chrismac, if you’re allowed to say, is it one of the intuitive robots you’ve bagged or something else?
I remember that factory we saw operating on a trade vid when I was in the meat trade, of them boning out lamb hinds with a robot. Lets hope they dont load the wrong software 😆 😆
Anyway, hope all goes well for him, which it should really. Quite advanced tech surgeons have these days.
