Except many ex-pats ‘retained’ an address in the UK ... and yet with a right to vote attached to their ‘house’.
A UK citizen didn't have a right to vote in the referendum if they lived abroad, regardless of whether they owned a house in the UK. Obviously it's fairly easy to vote illegally in the UK and yet back in reality there is an immaterial level of vote fraud.
This whole "Costa del Sol Brits caused Brexit, screwed us, and now they're screwed too" narrative is just a weird mix of schadenfreude, condescension and conspiracy theory rant.
Rishi's latest totally realistic and achievable brainwave to ban the under 16s from using social media
Rishi Sunak considers curbing social media use for under-16s
I await next weeks proposal to ban it raining at weekends
SQUIRREL!!

You're confusing "right" with "ability" - face it, you've no idea what occurred.
Oh, and of course the recent Voter ID requirements wouldn't stop this either.
Sunak is the worst of the lot.
His rise through the ranks must be the quickest of modern times.
The man who 1st promoted him is now in the House of Lords and back in the cabinet.
His families companies have picked up billions of pounds worth of contracts in recent years.
Look at HS2, he doesn't just cancel it, he applies a scorched earth policy to totally destroy it.
Hes absolutely hideous and totally corrupt.

No, I'm not confused at all. I've twice made the point that non-resident UK citizens were not eligible/entitled to vote in the UK, but could have cheated.
But back in the real world, the UK does not have a material level of voter fraud, despite how lax the registration process is. This is just a fact. There is no evidence that the Brexit referendum was different to elections as far as fraud goes. There is no need to engage in Trump-like voter fraud conspiracies.
But if you can show that illegally-voting-Brexiteers had a tangible impact on the referendum...

Sunak's father in law asked Cameron to find him a seat.
2010 Cameron led a large delegation to India including William Haigh Foreign Secretary and MP for Richmond.
Cameron's keynote speech in India was given at Infosys HQ in Bangalore.
Haigh steps down and Sunak beats local girl Wendy Morton to be candidate for Richmond.
Sunak was subsequently appointed Housing Minister in 2018, Chief Secretary to the Treasury in 2019 then Chancellor in 2020.
At no time did he declare his US green card status, he failed to declare his wife's interests in Infosys whilst they were awarded tens of £millions worth of public contracts.
He did declare his offshore 'Blind Trust' in 2019.
Under his watch as Chancellor contracts were still being awarded to Infosys and his 'Blind Trust' holds part of a 37% shareholding in Moderna who benefited from a £1 Billion deal to build a research and manufacturing centre in the UK.
When elected by Tory teenagers to be Leader of the Conservatives and Prime Minister he promised to publish his tax return in full, he didn't.
Infosys continued to do business with Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and so we had the Prime Minister's wife benefiting financially even though the UK sanctioned Russia.
This year Infosys sign a $1.5 Billion contract with BP a fortnight before Sunak announces new oil and gas licences.
And finally he appoints Cameron Foreign Secretary out of the blue. There are so many red flags and conflicts of interests it's difficult to trust the bloke.
Why does a multi-millionare want a difficult £150,000 job?
Sunak is the worst of the lot.

Agree. Was obvious from the Start.
He started from the position of Brexiteer and misrepresented constantly about government finances.
They're all useless and driven by an ideology of fiction.
A lot of wealthy folk shouldn't be anywhere near running the country - it's the myth of the successful or more appropriate - lucky. The country shouldn't be run on efficiency - it should be run on redundancy and capacity to do the job. Lack of capacity means things fall apart near the limit such as the health service. It's called under funding and under resourced. Doze Brain Bez Streeting can't even figure this out either.
The two main parties are all fumbling around with this dated concept of wealth creation/growth versus state efficiency.
Nothing gets better untill we move on from that.
He’s a tiny, pathetic little psychopath
As much as I despise Sunak, I fail to see what relevance his physical stature has in anything. Like many people of Asian descent, Sunak is typically smaller than the average Westerner, so his height is a trait of his ethnicity. Therefore picking on that is kind of thoughtless, as well as completely irrelevant. It's the kind of thing insecure people do. There are plenty of other failings of the man that you can pick from.
Sunak, at 170cm/5'7", is actually taller than that great British Hero, Winston Churchill, who stood at 168cm or around 5'6" (when sober, in his younger days). Margaret Thatcher was 165cm/5'5". Tony Blair is 6'. They all share something in common though...
go on, what's the punchline?
No, I’m not confused at all. I’ve twice made the point that non-resident UK citizens were not eligible/entitled to vote in the UK, but could have cheated.
They didn't have to cheat. So long as they had lived in the UK within the previous 15 years they were still eligible to vote.
A British citizen who is a service voter or overseas voter (British citizens may register as overseas voters for up to 15 years after leaving the UK)
They didn’t have to cheat. So long as they had lived in the UK within the previous 15 years they were still eligible to vote
You are entirely right and I am completely wrong. 👍. I thougt the rules were different for the referendum. I apologise for confusing the issue and talking nonsense.
He is tiny. Not only in stature but in his general demeanour and everything about him
When he tries to strut on the world stage he looks like someone let the work experience kid doing something special because it’s his birthday.
When he tried to do his tough guy routine at that daft press conference last week he looked like a toddler having a temper tantrum because his mum said no to the sweets by the checkout
He’s pathetic!

But most of them are like that. Particularly one Donald Trump. Who is very tall. Yet nobody picks up on that. So why mention Sunak's size?
Pinched this from another forum.
Would be a bit more convincing if it didn't make the classic conspiracy nutter's error of being unable to spell people's names correctly.
Sunak, at 170cm/5’7″, is actually taller than that great British Hero, Winston Churchill, who stood at 168cm or around 5’6″
They were born over 100 years apart.
Besides, Sunak obviously is worried about his height, hence those stupid short trousers, that apparently are meant to make him look taller.
Anyway, I'll stop criticising him over his height, his trousers, his big ears and his petulant whining voice, when the corrupt, lying, tax dodging, little ****, ****s off to the USA.
Would be a bit more convincing if it didn’t make the classic conspiracy nutter’s error of being unable to spell people’s names correctly.
You think it's a conspiracy, that has allowed a billionaire liar, to reach the highest office in the land in less than 10 years in politics?

Unless Winston Churchill's parents could not afford to provide him with a healthy balanced diet I don't understand the relevance of that.
Less carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
But most of them are like that. Particularly one Donald Trump. Who is very tall. Yet nobody picks up on that.
Erm... I think pretty much everyone has picked up on that, hence his constant representation as a giant man-baby and out of control toddler...

Would be a bit more convincing if it didn’t make the classic conspiracy nutter’s error of being unable to spell people’s names correctly.
So you're dismissing the post because of one mis-spelling?
Would it be more convincing/less questionable to you if it read William Hague, not Haigh
Plenty of mis-spellings across multiple posts on the forum - words, names, locations; do you question the credibility of those posts due to the mis-spellings?
No I dismiss it because it is obviously conspiracy nutter bollocks - just pointing one of the classic hallmarks.
When elected by Tory teenagers to be Leader of the Conservatives and Prime Minister he promised to publish his tax return in full, he didn’t.
I don't know the validity of the other claims in the rest of the post but that is weird nonsense.
Rishi Sunak was chosen to be 'Leader of the Conservatives and Prime Minister' by Tory MPs, none of them are teenagers.
Particularly one Donald Trump. Who is very tall.
No he's not, same height as me.
People who I've to look up to are "very tall".
He does have really tiny hands though.
Maybe that makes him look taller?
You'd think that having tiny hands would make you wave them about a bit less, wouldn't you?
Or that if you were a shortarse you wouldn't wear trousers that look like they've just been on a boil wash?
Seriously, if we've resorted to picking up on a physical trait he has no control over, it's time to step away from the internet, calm down, and have a reset.
His height, or lack if it, is irrelevant and to keep mentioning it makes us look childish.
Hus height, or lack if it, is irrelevant and to keep mentioning it makes us look childish.
It reminds me of Stewart Lee's take on a "fat Mother-in-law joke"...
I'm not saying my Mother-in-law is fat... because making jokes about her appearance would detract from the fact that she's an evil, cruel, manipulative bitch.
Are we allowed to mention the ability to buy clothes that actually fit you?
He can control that 😉
At no time did he declare his US green card status
When should he have done this and to who? Why should he?
Doesn’t look very conspiracy theory to me and just more of a timeline of facts and events.
Sure, but the implication is that e.g. Sunak awarded oil and gas licences to BP and in return Sunak's wife's family's business got some big contract from BP.
@ernielynch Queen Victoria was 5ft tall.
Did she have a poor diet or were people generally shorter in the 19th century?

Austerity trousers. He's just promoting the virtue of cutbacks.
Erm… I think pretty much everyone has picked up on that, hence his constant representation as a giant man-baby and out of control toddler…
No; Trump's height has never really been picked up as a point to ridicule him by. The 'man baby' thing is simply because he acts in an infantile manner. I think the thing to do, when someone points out a potential issue with a comment you've made, is not to double down and attempt to create some diversion away from yourself, but to consider that other person's point of view. I made efforts to listen when others were discussing the appropriateness or not of the term 'gammon', so it would be nice if we could have some mutual consideration going on here. Thanks.
No he’s not, same height as me.
I suppose it's all relative. Trump is recorded (by court/police officials) as being 190cm or 6'3". Even by Western a standards, that is somewhat taller than the average male.
Seriously, if we’ve resorted to picking up on a physical trait he has no control over, it’s time to step away from the internet, calm down, and have a reset.

I totally agree. Let's stick to criticisms of the person's character and actions, rather than anything related to their ethnicity and/or any physical extremes or abnormalities. Otherwise things just descend to playground levels, and becomes unedifying.

Free MemberAs much as I despise Sunak, I fail to see what relevance his physical stature has in anything.
It's the exact same as Desantis, or Trump's weight and ill health (or in fact Johnson's height since it's yet another thing he lied about, though of course being Johnson he lied about it in a faux self-deprecating way while also at the same time exaggerating it)- they've all chosen to make something of it and so it's fair to respond. Sunak isn't just a short person, he's a short person that likes to pretend not to be. Macron and Zelensky are both shorter than Sunak, but they just get on with it, Zelensky makes an asset of it rather than arranging for boxes to stand on or standing on tippy toes trying to look powerful, or faking up photos with the king so they look the same height. Say what you like about Starmer's absence of anything, at least you can be reasonably sure he's 5 foot 8. Maybe he'll uturn on that though.
It's not important, it's not like it's relevant to him cheerfully killing migrants for 4 and a half votes, but it loops perfectly back into the image over substance thing. Like in this completely normal picture...

The only person who's mentioned ethnicity is you, but don't worry we get the hardly-very-subtle accusation you're levelling and I resent it immensely
How dare you call me a trouserist!
The problem with the current brand of Tory and Sunak is totemic of it, is that they are absolutely crap at governing or really doing anything except from promoting their self-interests or the interests of their mates.
The only thing the likes of Sunak care is getting to the highest position of the ladder, the lower positions are just steps on the rung, actually doing the job of {insert ministerial post here} is completely unimportant to them and they change so often that they acquire almost no meaningful experience in the process.
But that's what happens you purge all Brexit non-believers to the backbenches, you left with the racists (30p Lee), the idiots (Gullis), the criminally incompetent (Truss) and opportunists (Sunak/Cleverly).
(Not sure which bucket Badenoch falls into, possibly all of the above, she's a nasty piece of work.)

And why do you think that is?

I'm doing nothing of the sort. If you're interpreting it that way, I respectfully suggest that has more to do with your own insecurities than anything else. But let's move on.
Sunak isn’t just a short person, he’s a short person that likes to pretend not to be
And where might his personal insecurity regarding his height (as you've suggested) come from?
Yeah, we must remember to punch up, not down.
Trump’s height has never really been picked up as a point to ridicule him by.
I agree with you that mocking someone's body is fairly silly. (And I am sure I am probably being hypocritical to say that). But Trump's height - and particularly his use of lifts in his shoes and weird posture - has been mocked.
