Looking at getting some software for my HRM. However checking out the prices, the pre-tax price in Europe is $80 rather than $60 you can buy it for in the US (apologies if those links don't work - you'll have to click through and use a proxy otherwise!) Note that's pre-tax price. The software is even developed in Europe!

Can somebody explain to me how they can possibly justify that? Also is there any good reason I can't buy from the US site (all I appear to be buying is a key to make the software work) using a proxy?

Being not able to buy from the states may be licensing laws
or simply control from the manufactures.

Given that all they appear to do is email you a licence key, why not just order it from the US site using a US proxy?

You'll appear to be located in the US

That's what I was thinking, thanks - though you still have to provide a US street address (would they check that against the address for your card/paypal?)

Then again, given the reason I was even looking at this is that Suunto only now supply online performance software, with the original offline software having been unsupported for 3 years - and that this software appears to be a newer version of the original offline software, from the same company - I'm somewhat disinclined to pay them anything for something they should be supplying as a free update. It does appear to have a 14 day trial period, and I am a software engineer...

You think this is disparity? Try sourcing anything from Adobe.

I always saw this kind of piss-taking as the reason god invented torrents.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd sooner chew my own arm off than pay them for software - I try and avoid using what they give me for free (Foxit/Flashdance)!

Yeah, but it's only a key you pay for - the s/w is a free download, but 14 day trial licence. Or am I missing something about torrents? As implied above, I have no moral objection to a torrent in this case!

every time
Not sure that Paypal does give out your postal address outside of eBay
never been an issue, I can't see them reading the form anyway

Tell you what, send me some money and I'll let you know if it shows your address
As long as my amnesia stays in remission, you'll get it right back 🙂

EDIT: just looked at a recent payment to me from someone here - no address shown
