Gods Great Banana Skin was the soundtrack of my drive across the Nullabor 30 years ago. 😟

The fact that millions will hear this news on the way to friends and family for the festivities is pretty epic timing. If you've got to go, good to get the details right.

Aw that is sad.  I met him once (at a Caterham 7 track day) and he seemed a decent bloke.  I am sure he is on the grassy path to heaven at this moment.

@sandwich Blimey, that is unfortunate timing i have to say! Call me Nostradamus! I wonder if there are other people who I should be rude about? LMK - You obvs spend too much time on the forum to cross-ref like that 😉

I did listen to some Chris Rea this afternoon in acknowledgement, and very chill and of the time, and a bit samey, not something I'd have on a regular playlist, but fair play.

I saw him way back in the early 1980’s supporting Eric Clapton at the Edinburgh Playhouse. He was no makeweight, I really enjoyed his set. I don’t know that his commercially successful work was necessarily his best but, hey, he racked up some number 1 albums and at least one songbook standard in “Fool if you Think it’s Over”.

I remember being a young kid on a road trip with my now late dad, he was a bit of a rocker and 'road to hell' was playing...aside from being a great song,  that was really the first time I started to become environmentally and socially aware, as my dad explianed the lyics to me.

That's a core memory unlocked, getting a bit emotional now. 🤧

RIP Chris.

Not particularly a fan of his genre but musical tastes are a very broad church and a lot of people liked it, so a hat tipped to a great songwriter. I enjoyed when he visited Paul and Bob for their Christmas episode a couple of years back, seemed a nice funny chap.

Given he was from Middlesborough, aren't 'Driving Home for Christmas' and 'Road to Hell' two sides of the same coin, or do I need to listen to RtH again now given what Mattyfez has posted?
