Daughter's orthodontist has suggested a fixed retainer instead of removeable (gumshield) type - expect the additional cost to be about £250-£300.

Anyone who has experience of both types care to comment on if it's worth it?

From what I remember of tooth straightening for the youth element here the gum shield type were used when the major movements had been completed and final tidying up was going on. The dentist can get a good pull on with the fixed type, plus the bonded brackets can be different colours each time you get a change made.

Probably worth it. Removable retainers break, get lost etc, fixed ones just work so all the work and time from both sides doesn't get wasted.
My daughter has had a fixed one for 5+ years, no relapse, and no problems.

Retired dentist...not orthodontist though 🙂
