We will be in touch
Went to do this last night - both the insurance and the tax are due to run out end of december. Renewed the insurance on Saturday and went to do the tax online last night but it said that we didnt have valid insurance for the vehicle. I assume that the computers need some time to update from the weekend - is this correct?
Many thanks!
I reckon that'd be it - the DVLA takes the info from the car insurance database which would have to be updated by your insurance company. Just reckon you haven't given it enough time.
Remember even if you pay your tax on the 31st Dec, you still have 5 days grace in which to display your tax disk (recent change to the rules IIRC).
A quick call to your insurance company might be an idea in case your reg gets flagged by some coppers with ANPR in the car (might get flagged due to "no insurance") - just to make sure they've got your car registered.
Cheers dd - we still have 14 dys left on both so not out of date yet - but what with xmas coming up wanted to get both sorted out his week! Ill try again tonight when I get home
And your right too, had to buy a car in a rush recently as a sudden job change needed me to get some wheels, picked it up on a sunday, had the insurance running from the saturday, but couldnt do tax online as car wasnt in my name as yet, so I had to run it until the insurance docs came through, got spottted by one of those camera's on the tuesday, docs didnt arrive until the thursday and no amount of pleading got me off the fine though they did reduce it fron £115 to £45...
As said, the insurance company wont have a full team working at weekends, your details will probably be uploaded today. Weird the 14 days you have left wasnt enough to allow you to tax it though, maybe there is a minimum.
have valid insurance covering the use of the vehicle on the day the tax disc comes into force
Just checked their website and it has this statement. as they both come into affect on the same day hopefully it should be ok to do it tonight!
tinsy - You could have taxed it at the post office straight away though, your insurers could've emailed you a cover note to print and use to get it taxed.
Just tax for 6 months this time, and then go back to 12 month'ers - won't have the problem next year.
steveh I did try it with the docs that came through to my e-mail, no go, funny enough I did ring them to buy the insurance and they sent me back to the web to do it! I could probably have rang them back after getting the insurance online to get the cover note sent via e-mail but I was losing the will to live... Wish I had tried it now though. 😕
