I work and conduct visits in a variety of locations and write lots of notes to type up after visits. As a result I'm carrying a ton of stuff around, including several notebooks. I have been looking at investing in a reMarkable to reduce the amount I carry and be more organised with notes.
My job means I often have difficult and sensitive conversations with people which I need to record, and I would feel uncomfortable typing straight into my laptop whilst doing this, though it is an option.
I'm wondering if anyone is using the reMarkable, which one, how do you find it, would the cheaper one be ok with the above use case? Or any other options for note taking tech, thank you 🙂
I know/have known a few users of them and all of them have loved them as a device. No personal experience, although I do love a gadget so I'll probably get one eventually.
There is also an Amazon scribe, but Amazon.
I use an iPad Pro + Microsoft OneNote. A reMarkable might be a better option for purely note taking, but I personally wouldn't want to add a single use device to have to carry around. OneNote is not my favourite software, but having all notes synced between the iPad, work Win laptop, home Mac laptop & phone is great.
I have been using a Remarkable 2 since 2022. I got it because i was working across multiple clients and projects, and paper notebooks were getting out of hand. OneNote didn't work as the interface and writing experience on a surface pro was poor, and onenote is not so intuitive.
The Remarkable is great, the writing experience is lovely, and I no longer need paper notebooks so i travel lighter. It takes a little while to get into the workflow, but it is great once you have that. Using Tags and folders to organise notepads by client and project is good, and using their subscription so you can see your notes on a PC and phone is really useful. It also interfaces with Office so you can send docs direct to the Remarkable to read in peace. You can also upload PDFs and annotate.
It's good for taking notes n meetings as there is less interference compared to typing in a meeting. Supposedly you can use handwriting recognition to send stuff by email, but my handwriting and it do not get on. When i need to step away and try thinking quietly, it's really helpful in organising thoughts and skethcing workflows and stuff like that.
They have a lot of different document templates for different job tasks available to utilise so they are making sure that they support lots of different job roles and industries
I have been thinking about getting the newer PaperPro as it has a backlight and colour, but haven't gone there yet
LMK if any specific Qs
Thank you for your thoughts all @susepic that's really helpful! We sound in a similar situation with lots of clients and multiple note books. I am looking at the remarkable 2 as it's a bit cheaper, and this is a thing for work that I'm funding myself. I looked at the paper pro but don't think I need colour and extra backlight. I have a question regarding the monthly subscription which I don't think I would purchase - what would I actually be missing out on?
Also look at Supernote although not as easy to get hold of in the uk they are similar but have a few advantages.
I would like to try both before I decided as neither are cheap!
I use my reMarkable all the time. Not much to add to the previous posts. It’s been great and I’ve gone from various notebooks to highly organised meeting notes.
The pens are damn expensive so when I’m out of office I use a Lamy Al-star pen which works as well as the official (non eraser) reMarkable pen but about a 1/3 of the price. Also don’t buy the official rip-off device cover.
@Anna-B Connect allows you to see your work on laptop and phone, and add typed text in a limited way. Also the way to send office docs and Pdfs to your remarkable from your laptop, or scan docs in from your phone, or print to remarkable using a chrome plug in. I think it's really useful and part of my work flow. I use the page sorter view on my laptop screen to quickly review notes and then summarise on the remarkable.

I too use a Lamy AI pen having lost my original marker.
I did buy an expensive cover, and it has lasted very well. I think a cover of some kind is important if you're travelling a lot.
They have some Black Friday offers for another few hours today.
Thanks all, will look at the Supernote, not even heard of that and a good tip re the AI Lamy pens. Thanks for the info re connect susepic. I don't really want to pay a continuous monthly sub for a work thing. I can see its probably best with, but the main aim is not to have so many notebooks to carry!
I'll ask at work with some colleagues that need the 'latest' shoot. They had remarkables, but now going back to newer ipads, and also carrying a laptop... I just have my laptop.
