One for the solar and home battery experts.
We have solar and 9kW of foxess batteries and a 5kW Foxess inverter (also an ASHP for info, so no gas) we use Octopus cosy which works ok but I would like to increase our battery storage before the winter. Easy peasy as the Foxess system is modular. However... now that our eldest has just left home our current house is a bit big for us so we will at some point over the next couple of years or so downsize. Consequently I want to leave the current Foxess kit in the house but take the new battery and inverter with us. Basically add transportable battery storage for the winter. I like the Foxess but its a bit spendy and I suspect i can get more now for less money.
Anyone have any recommendations of an upgradeable solution of circa 5kW of battery and at least a 5kW inverter?
I will source and install the equipment myself and get an electrician to make the connections.
You could, but if I was buying a house with solar PV and battery storage, and then the seller said they were taking the battery with them when they move, I'd drop my offer to reflect this. The bulk of the cost of this stuff is the electrical work, so given you'll have to pay for it twice and lose the value off the sale, why bother?
I'm not taking the current installed battery and inverter i am looking to add more to it but take what I add when I move. All the current stuff stays.

FoxESS has precedent of at least once in the past of rolling out next generation kit which is incompatible with previous stuff. I'd invest my time in load-shifting on a time-of-day tariff instead of trying to ferry batteries around during a house move. You'll also need to shove it in your car, because a removal company won't touch it.

Having installed two FoxESS systems myself, you could trust that the knowledge I bring is relevant.
This is a problem because you could buy a battery now, install it, move to another house, buy another Fox system, and then discover that the two don’t work together and you now need to sell a used battery and buy a new one anyway.

Have you actually tried lifting one of these? If you’re moving house your car will be full of essential stuff anyway. Also I wouldn’t want to be in an accident with a 100kg cube behind me.

I think you’ve missed the point. The financial benefits of doing what you’re suggesting are a gamble at best, so spend your time doing something that will save money. As I said earlier, when the conversation comes up with prospective buyers about you taking the battery with you it’ll be a huge red flag (it definitely would be to me: partly because of the DIY aspect and partly because I’d be wondering what else from the house you’d be quietly unbolting to take with you).
You asked for advice; you were given it. If your intention is to disagree with anyone that offered a contrary opinion why did you ask in the first place?
