So came in this morning to armageddon basically. Boss redundant, and another 3 workers in my bit to go, more at the other office.
A shit state of affairs all-round.
I'm ok though i've been told. So good in that respect, still feels incredibly shit tbh.
Kicker for me is that now the boss gone I'm next in line to be answering the scoring questions and he is refusing to, and nobody at the main office can do that for up here. What the heck basically, I never signed up for any management bollix(tbh I actively avoid it). But i don't really see how I can avoid this...Giving me a shitey horrible feeling around round.
Opinions welcome?
I find out next Friday whether I am redundant or not. I believe it will 5.5% of the work force. I'm not that bothered myself as I am a single parent and will be looked after by Mr tax payer until the next job but some of the others facing the chop are really worried.
On the plus side look at all the time I will get to ride. Every cloud eh...
I never signed up for any management bollix

Proper management types have moved on; Audi A6 Avant is the car of choice, and roadieing seems very de rigeur at the moment.
OP - my sympathies, it's not a great position to be in. Then again, you're still in a job. Look at it as an unwelcome promotion, work out what the benefits to you are and whether you really want it. If not, refuse, but remember that you may be next.
If you think it's worth taking on all the management stuff, then demonstrate to your new managers exactly what additional responsibilities you're accepting, and ask them (now) for an increase "at the appropriate time". I know it feels like picking over the bodies of the recently dead, but that's the way of the world.
"Here's to a bloody war or a sickly season"
Just ask for yer old bosses salary. If they wont pay it dont do the work.
You could draw big pictures of willys on the forms, for all that they will be used to inform decisions. There is already a plan.
In fact I think you should draw willys on them. (doesn't have to be yours, be creative, run with it)
feeling shite but still having a job is an infinately better situation to be in than having no job and still feeling shite.
Especially with christmas approaching.
Having no job for me at least was one of the worst experiences of my life and while that's clearly an issue I need to deal with, I still wouldn't recommend it.
Refer any "scoring" questions to the HR droids who decided who got the boot. If you didn't play any part in the process then why should you be expected to justify things.
If your boss's position has been made redundant then you've got nothing to worry about surely as the company no longer feels it needs that role? This is aimed at the company not you. It is roles that are supposedly redundant, not people. But that is my understanding of the "rules" which are never adhered to as people left in jobs are rarely brave enough and stick their head above the parapet. Not that I blame them. Personally if I was in your position I think I'd seek some sort of advice on how you stand. I'd want to cover myself for getting remuneration commensurate with the position if you are expected to take it up, what I could do to to refuse to take on the responsibility if they are not willing to pay up, have a plan if they then decide to make you "redundant" as I think it would be "constructive dismissal" so get your position recorded now with CAB or something so you have evidence if it comes to a tribunal. It's sad to have to take this position but in the current climate I feel self preservation is vital and IMHO few companies will think twice about dumping on their employees cos they know the climate for new work and will use it to their advantage.
Cheers, appreciate all the comments, given me alot to think about anyhow.
There having big changes here recently, MD was pumped about a year ago and I think this is alot to do with replacing those that were loyal to him, as well as a constant slump in the market over the last 3 years or so, so it's a mixture of survival and opportunism i think. Couple of big earners have been bumped basically aswell as others.
I've not been let in on any overall plan as of yet(although I am involved in new stuff), but I'll give it a week or 2 let things settle, and then have a quiet word about how things will work after the new year. I've alot of questions needing answered that's for sure. I can see this bit getting shut down(not many of us left) and getting merged with the other place with things going in a different direction.
As for the scoring, well I got the phone call, and just basically answered a series of yes/no questions. Was as honest as I could be, didn't really know what else i could do. But least that's over with.
Btw Samuri, I 100% with you, I may feel crap, nothing compared to those who have been made redundant, my heart goes out to them.
