Unfortunatly, as much as I loved red dwarf back in the day, it hasn't aged well IMO.

I won't be binging, might take a look at some of the classic episodes though.

Yeah it's aged really badly... It was the funniest thing in tv back in the day but I find it total cringe now.

I'll watch it all again. I don't think it has aged badly, but certainly hasn't aged well. However, I'm fortunate enough to have the same sense of humour as I did back then so it should still almost all work like it did first time around.

Thanks for flagging this.

Couldn’t disagree more, think it still stands up great. It is what it is, never had the highest standards of acting/budget etc. Often watch an ep or two on whatever streaming service I find them!

It went down hill after about s7, which that's still pretty good going.  It just felt like they were recycling the same old jokes after that.

Even up to s7 I remember thinking it was the best thing since sliced bread but watching it recently I agree it hasn't aged well.

I’d say 6 was the last really good season, but I’ll still watch the rest - even sub-par RD is better than no RD 😀

Need this for tea now

Rimmer:
I want a triple fried egg sandwich...

Lister:
With chili sauce and chutney!

Holly:
You what?

Lister:
It's a state-of-the-art sarnie!

Holly:
It's the state of the floor I'm worried about.

No, has been on UKTV Play. Series IX is on Dailymotion.

Yeah to be fair, lister, rimmer, (s****) and the cat were great comedy characters!

And last but not least, kryton the robot.. Who's desperately trying to keep them all in line.

I take back my previous post. Red Dwarf was comedy genius.

Just don't watch the reversal episode whilst you are eating.

Series 1 and 2 were the heart of it. 3-6 had good one liners and setups but I'm not sure they stand up very well. And 7 onwards - urgh.

The old episodes are brilliant, the one where the morphing thing ended up on the ship and could change into anything that was around it. Turned into underpants which Lister tried on then tried to squeeze him to death as they tightened to death!

I mean there are so many great scenes, too many but that’s one I remember well 🤣

The writing was excellent. Lots of the phrases have entered our family lexicon.

'Can we stop for a moment sir my intelligence circuits have melted.'

'I want you all to know that in the future I'll come to think of you as people I once met.'

'Please rush me my portable walrus polishing kit. Four super brushes to tackle even the trickiest of sea-bound mammals. Yes, I am over 18, although my IQ isn’t.'

the one where the morphing thing ended up on the ship and could change into anything that was around it.

Was it the same episode or a similar one where a form changing alien turned itself into Lister,  and they decided which was the real Lister by asking them to play the guitar and instantly fried the one who played like Hendrix, much to Lister's disgust? 😀

The writing was excellent.

Yes, some of it was genius, and it generally was clever. It suffered from having a low budget and the same writers constantly but it wouldn't have been the same thing with a higher budget and a team of writers - that's why it went downhill, if I remember correctly?

If you want the high budget version, read the books. Written after the first two series I think, by the same authors.

Think the main reason cited for the downhill is the falling out of Rob Grant & Doug Naylor and one of them carried on alone (poss with some additional writers).

I read somewhere that if it were to be made nowadays they would change the sex of the computer and one of the characters would identify as a cat.

If you’re going to entertain that sort of none-sense then f*ck it let’s go full on woke and have one character identify as a dead bloke and another as a robot. Christ, while at it throw in a talking vending machines and a sarcastic toaster that talks back FFS.

Having been overseas in early '88, I didn't get to see the first series for four years, until my brother turned up one evening with a bootleg video.

I'll watch it...I like them all but there are a couple of series not as good as the others...the later ones aren't quite as good but aren't bad.

"The Committee for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society." One drawback with that--the abbreviation is C.L.I.T.O.R.I.S.", Rimmer.

Despite not being 14 any more, I think think this is the best line from all the series.
