I went with the genuine apple leather case in brown. Not as much protection but look nice and turns off the screen when closed.

If you want something genuinely tough and water and dust proof, the Lifeproof case is great. Not cheap and increases the bulk a bit, but very effective. Means you can watch life footy in the shower too...

Yeah, that's probably fair comment on the sound quality front. Its not horrific, but I guess keeping the thing in one piece is higher on my list of priorities than audio excellence.
