Bearing in mind I'm no techno fan as a rule.

Mostly I listen to Indie and rock, but I've always been a huge Depeche Mode fan (and Erasure and Yazoo to a lesser extent). I picked up Ssss by VCMG (a collaboration between Vince Clarke and Martin Gore). I really, I mean REALLY, like it, but as said before never really considered myself a fan of techno.

I'm sure a lot of people will claim this is either not techno, or it's pitched at the 'softer' end of the Techno scale. That notwithstanding, can anyone recommend me anything similar? Not too bangy...the only words that describe what I love about Ssss is its well-crafted hooks, its energy and its flow.
Cheers,

Andy

A few of the classics from Atkins, Saunderson, May and Beltram...

A Documentary that ANYONE remotely into Techno needs to watch... "Hi Tech Soul"...

Some Dave Clarke...

His awesome remix of Fischerspooner's "Emerge"...

Now for some of my personal fave's... These will show the doubters Techno can be, and often is, quite soulful and groovy, not always just about repetitive loops, though sometimes it's that as well!

There are hundreds more, just struggling to remember at the moment! 😕

Mate,

Not 'Techno', but If you're Mode fan have you ever listened to any Electro-Industrial groups?

Try -

Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, The Covenant, Front Line Assembly, Nine Inch Nails, VNV Nation, Young Gods, Mesh.

Spacebuoy recently supported Erasure - really good band.

Ah thanks for reminding me that that Vcmg album existed - playing on Spotify now, sounds good.

A relatively little-known but excellent tuneful, melodic and soulful techno album that I always recommend on threads like this is 'Mecanno Mind' by Syntax. You might need to play it a couple of times, but it's a real grower.

(Made by someone who was once something to do with Fluke, I think, although I could be wrong.)

schrickvr6 has given you a quality selection of the latest music. All the Oneohtrix records are amazing. The new Actress record is also amazing but my favourite just now is the Scuba record:
