My brother has developed a god awful taste in music. I want to do a compilation cd for chrsitmas to try and steer him back the right way.
Stuff like this or The Letters.

I'm unclear on this - is this compilation the carrot or the stick ?

How about TV Smith ('s explorers)? IMO defines the halfway between

the stuff that came about between punk and the new romantics IIRC

the jam may be the obvious choice? the jolt, the members, elvis costello, xtc, carpettes?
pretty much describes the 80s 'mod' movement tho, so secret affair, merton parkas, chords, squire, purple hearts, lambrettas, jags, nine below zero etc etc

How about - and very relevant to this forum (!) - "Wasting Time" by Strangeways? They were billed as being PowerPop at the time
