Got another big bunch of motorway miles to do over the next few days, so loading up with listening materials, in the past I've had some superb pointers from the forum, so thought I'd see if theres anything else folk can point me too.

I can sometimes get a bit impatient with long spells listening to music, so tend towards talky stuff.

Music wise already though, I have lots of Solid Steel Radio Show (which I generally like but too much is too much), and more recently happened across 'Stones Throw' thanks to DezB of this manor. I've only got pretty recent episodes of that one though - need to look if older ones are available.

But otherwise I've never really settled to any music podcasts I've found, but I'm a bit of a 6 music listener and a Paul's Boutique dismantler if that sparks any suggestions

Heres my recommendations in return..... (which are all talk)

Theres all the good radio 4 stuff (More or Less is my fave)

also enjoy Freakonomics which is like More or Less only american and theres more of it. Its less current-affairsy and often has something more empathetic about it.

'Snap Judgement' (which describes itself as 'story telling with a beat'- you won't notice the beat though) can be superb - takes some getting used to, theres something very american that can grate at first, but get past that and at its best there is amazing firsthand testimony, can make you cry though. If you develop a taste for it the best thing is theres about 100 hours of it available

'99% Invisible' is beautifully crafted little programmes about design, some as short as pop songs, and brilliant

'Answer me this' is rubbish - but somehow its compelling rubbish.

Any more for any more?

Audiobooks?

Hitch-Hiker's Guide and Dirk Gently are both worth a listen.

This American Life

I must check that out actually - I've heard reference to it on 99% Invisible I think

EDIT - subscribed - annoyingly no 'back issues' available

Audiobooks?
I'm not really a fan of literature. Snap Judgement is story telling but in the sense (generally) of giving a personal account, although some are more constructed and poetic accounts than others. The only book I've ever fancied hearing is Finnegan's Wake, although I'd want to see the text as well as hear it (and that might make me crash - which would be apt)

I see theres some R4 stuff about Ulysses though just now - I'll see if any of that is podcast-y

I am enjoying the Richard Herring Leicester Square podcasts, and if you like him (and haven't already listened to them) have a look at the 'me 1 v me 2' podcasts. He's a bit of a lunatic.

I know you don't want music - but on the off chance that you like punk & ska, and fancy hearing some undergroundish tunes held together by a couple of affable Mancs, I recommend the TNS Records podcast.

Actually I do, I've just struggled up to now to find podcasts I can get on with for any length of time, quite like a bit of ska and reggae too, so will check it out
