Submarine. It deserves to be a classic, and will be when it's old enough.

City of god

The problem with watching this film is that all subsequent films seem rubbish.

Except the shawshank redemption

Dead Man's Shoes

One of the best films of the last ten years, if not all time.

Synopsis: man returns to his home town from time in the army and seeks revenge on the gang that abused his brother.

Sounds like a no brainer action flick, but it's so much more than that.

Sorry, but you're not allowed to watch Serenity without watching Firefly first. (The Empire Strikes Back is a fantastic film, but would you watch it before Star Wars?)

Some good mentions above, fight club is my favourite film ever.

The Departed
American History X
The Dark Knight

You've seen pulp fiction, yes?

You could try Primer. If you think Memento was smart then Primer will blow your mind. I remember reading somewhere that one scientific critic said if you think you understood the film, you probably didn't.

+1 Dead Man's Shoes - Paddy Considine is superb.

Gattaca - clever & atmospheric sci fi.

Narc - gritty / visceral cop movie.

Sideways - very funny road/buddy movie.

What? Salt is a truly awful film. I watched it on a flight from Newark to San Francisco recently and was so bored I had to resort to taunting the fat, ugly american sat next to me.

I saw the latest X-men film on a recent flight and it was great - right until the end when Xavier became a cripple years before he did in the proceeding films - which was a let down.

Good films:-
Easy Rider
Blood Simple
Get Carter

That really is it......

For some light relief, I suggest some of Myazaki's wonderful Studio Ghibli animé:
Spirited Away
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Porko Rosso
Castle In The Sky
Howl's Moving Castle
Ponyo
Arrietty
All masterpieces of the animators art, and all wonderful. Totoro is quite possibly one of my all time favourite films. Gives me a warm glow every time I watch it.
And I go along with pretty much every suggestion made so far, too.

Salt is a truly awful film

I thought Salt was "alright." It wasn't bad, it wasn't terrific, but it was "alright." There are many films that fall into this category.

Has anyone mentioned True Romance yet?

A very under-rated film IMO

Of course most of the above too.

Here is a list of things that you could do which would be better then watching Hanna

Anything
Everything

Probably the worst film I have ever seen. And I've tried to watch Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2.

and my current head mess of a film "Rubber".

When Robert, a tire, discovers his destructive telepathic powers, he soon sets his sights on a desert town; in particular, a mysterious woman becomes his obsession.

lol?? Hobo with a shotgun was pretty cool though.

Hopefully not repeating too many that have been previously posts & only a few as I could go on for hours:

Grosse Point Blank - fantastic 80's sound track, John Cossack in great the role he's repeated performed ever since (see it once, so you don't need to see the repeats) & a bunch of good actors having fun.

Leon the Professional - this is the director cut version of 'Leon', with an extra 15 minutes of film which add's to the story & allows it to make a bit more sense. You see a longer relationship develope between the main characters, rather than seemingly meeting and the climax.

Taxi - The french comedy not De Niro's "taxi driver" or the Queen fricken Latifah re-[s]shite[/s] do. Subtitled, but again some great music (bloody sound track cd has a loads of lousy french DJ's added - very very annoying). Ignore the bullets missing everything and just enjoy the french having fun with a 405...

Alien and maybe Aliens but none of the others are worth bothering with, prepared to jump & become scared of the dark.

Black Hawk Down - It's just very very good, and lots of guns for the 'boys'.

Animated:
Toy Story - all of them, just watch them, you need to
Shrek - the 1st is the best, the other are a bit pap
Up - If you don't cry or at least become a bit sniffy with the 1st 10 minutes, your not human, but them it's GREAT! ...Squirrel!

Ghost busters, Zomieland, Star Wars (IV to VI).. loads and loads of great movies about

Another for me, that wasn't a commercial success. Skip the first 25mins of Savior and it turns from a horrid US B movie into a bleak, depressing but touching Balkans-homemade feel film.

Everytime I watch it I end up drinking a lot 🙁

Youtube savior trailer (the cack bit is the cafe blowing up)

The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
Cool Hand Luke
all 3 are prison movies

Cassablanca - cynical bar owner tries to play the nazis off against the vichy French while wishing that his ex hadn't turned up in town

A Fistful of Dollars / For A Few Dollars More / The Good The Bad & The Ugly, in that order. Spaghetti westerns, what more do you need to know.
Pale Rider & High Plains Drifter too. Oh, and Two Mules For Sister Sarah.

Repo Man (the 1980s one with Emilio Estevez & Harry Dean Stanton, not "The Repo Men")

On The Waterfront
