Need a new phone and quite keen to get one that will let me pick up emails etc. when I'm on the road. The usual web browser, MP3 player, GPS, etc. gubbins would be good too. Full-on email use will only be occasional, so probably don't need a Blackberry.

iPhone would be great but is too much €€€.

Currently top contender is the HTC Magic. Any good?

Samsung stuff any good?

The new Desire HD seems well received.

But honestly there isn't that much difference in price to an iPhone.

Wouldn't touch another samsung, my pervious phone was sent in for repair 5 times in a year, same fault every time. Just put me off, thier customer service was dreadful. Happy with an iPhone.

battery life is fine if you use it when required and don't leave loads of network type shit on all the time

Bit more surfing reveals HTC Magic is track-ball, not touch-screen so forget that! However it also looks like I can get an HTC Legend, which appears to be the canine's suspended parts.

BTW, HTC Legend = 1€ with contract, iPhone = 269€ with contract. iPhone not an option!

compared to the my old Nokia E71 the Desire battery life is rubbish, not surprising as desire consumes more power and has a smaller capacity battery..

damn sight more usable that the e71 though!

I have had a samsung galaxy and its been back to the repair shop 3 times. its back there right now. and they refuse to replace it. however I do love the android operating system and how it ties in to all the google apps.
samsung no
android yes

get a desire and be a happy guy

Hmmm, would getting an iPhone 3 be a really bad idea now it's all but replaced by the iPhone 4?

I have had a samsung galaxy

I had a Galaxy also, till I kicked off at O2 for selling me a phone that was fundementally gash. They swapped it for a Desire. My tale and that of others is documented on the Android Forums.
