Not my favourite grape but want to get a nice bottle for someone
D'Arenburg Dead Arm Shiraz is a nice treat
What do they like? Big bold barrossa or something more fruity? http://balthazarbarossa.com/
Favourite for big and bold, Rochfords basket press for something more subtle.
I used to be quite fond of Errazuriz (Chilean) Shiraz but I've now sold my soul to Zinfandel. Drinking it as I type.
Try a Cote du Rhone - waitrose do a good one

Edit: it was on sale for £6.74 and seems to be sold out online, itnwas good value for £9 so £6.74 is a bargain imho

Or, for something completely different....

Côtes du Rhône are the basic AOC wines of the Rhône region, and exist as red, white and rosé wines, generally dominated by Grenache (reds and rosés) or Grenache blanc (whites).
Not exactly close to a shiraz really is it. Grenache has its place though.
Couple of the Vic grampian ones are worth a look too, the high e d Peter lehmans is surprisingly good. Though generally something with a bit of age to it.
plenty of syrah along the Rhone, though - and a bit different to most of the Aussie ones
... if you're feeling relatively rich
Three in different price ranges, priciest first:
All 3 lovely Shiraz:
http://www.glaetzer.com/bishop.htm - about £35
http://www.brownbrothers.com.au/products/3977/ - about £25
http://www.hedonistwines.com.au/wines/shiraz - about £14
Charlie Melton has a good one.
But the better wine is his homage to the Cote du Rhone - Nine Popes. Tremendous stuff.
