I'm not a gamer, never have been. But my bike is out of action for a week and didnt realise how much i was reliant on it in the evenings and im now very bored.
I have steam downloaded and looking at games but they all seem super complicated and massive worlds and i dont want to invest too much time. What would you recommend for someone who doesn't really play games?
I tried to get into games about a decade ago and had some fun playing titles like portal and tomb raider - so probably puzzle/task based rather than big open worlds but i'm open to anything!
thanks!
Had a thread on this last week if you have a search back. I think it was about the game 'Inside'.
If you can't be bothered to read it, get 'Inside'. Or Portal 2, or Limbo etc.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. AOE 3 is out tomorrow but I think 2 is alot easier to pick up and less power hungry on the computer
Among Us. I'm finding it annoyingly addictive.
I quite liked Bridge Constructor Playground when I played it earlier this year or last:

And Dynamite Jack too:

Portal 1+2 are superb too, amazing to play cooperative, and the Left4Dead2 is another good coop game.
All seem complex, but basic controls are all you need to do whatever battleground demands.
Move forward, left, right, jump and shoot.
Many games tag opposition players red, your own green so knowing who to shoot at is easy.
After not playing much than the same old same old TF2 or Arma, ive started playing one called Planetside2, available free on steam.
The game is big, complex, with elements of it I dont understand as yet, but arent too bothered. Theres squads, and voice chat and vehicles of all types, which move using the same keys as you use to move, jump etc. There are even goals for each team.
I pay this little attention and just shoot at people marked red(Or green, im good) Planetside 2 is a huge number of players, maybe hundreds on your team, so theres always people to revive you, or resupply you, and you can just get on with doing your own thing.
This vid looks exactly the thing you are avoiding, but look at what the guy is doing. He doesnt appear to be part of any squad following to an objective(Obviously to take, hold and cross this bridge), but he just appears to be sauntering along, going with the flow. And this is the way i like to play.
There are plenty in squads and merrily chatting away between themselves, but I'd say for the most part its individuals doing their own thing.
Has to be better than sitting alone in a spaceship flying around an infeasible large playzone, rarely meeting another soul, or being frustrated out of your mind searching for a difficult solution to get yourself considerably less stimulus, than blasting a cartoon man with a cartoon gun, which is somewhat pleasing for instant hit gratification.
FTL. It's got a lot to take on straight away in terms of control but after that it's pretty plain sailing- hard but not massively complicated, if you know what I mean? And it's fantastic.
This War Of Mine is... miserable. But good.
Frostpunk is amazing but might be a bit much, it kind of assumes that you already know how to do a city game.
Rocket League, free to play now, Rumble mode relies less on 1337 skills and more on good use of your current powerup.
One ~7min game leads to another and another...
You don't want to invest much time? Then Elite Dangerous is for you*
* no it's not
Coffin Dodgers for Mario Kart type fun.
+1 FTL and Portal 2
Slay the Spire.
It's like Solitaire but you use the cards to battle monsters.
It's easy to pick up and relaxing to play.
Tomb Raider (the reboot, 2013). Excellent game, addictive enough to draw you in, shallow enough that you can step away when you need to.
Another vote here for Among Us, or Fall Guys.
Postel 4: No Regrets is good if you enjoy super violent first person shooters. Not for the kids though.
Doom (2016) is pretty linear, none of that open world nonsense. Just shoot stuff in the face and explode it, then move onwards. Good though.
Or learn to fly with new ms flight simulator.
I’m not a gamer, never have been.

If you liked portal then download the orange box.
Black Mesa

Used to have great fun with TF2, but it's not what it used to be, sadly. Half Life 2 is still worth it.
Overwatch is great if you fancy a bit of team-based scrapping. Learn to play a few classes and dive in.
Black Mesa
Played through the main campaign when it was in beta. OK but not sure it was worth all the years of effort.
What about some old school, stick 10p into a coin-op and get a good hiding from the AI sort of thing? Retroarch is free, does loads of older systems (80s) up to Sega Dreamcast (early 2000s) and there are loads of games ROMs and ISOs that are, er, available to download from various websites. 2D shoot 'em ups and fighting games do it for me and that's when all the really good stuff was released. You're not just stuck with pc games on a pc 😉
edit- and, because the game files are generally quite small they download quickly and it's quite nice looking for other games it a genre that you enjoy that are also, er, available to download from various websites.
There's a new Sim City game on Steam isn't there?
I recently picked up the "Company of Heroes" pack on Steam.
An oldie but a goodie if you are a fan of "Band of Brothers" and RTS games.
It's going cheap in the "Go Sega" sale at the moment. The Franchise Pack has 1 & 2 plus all the expansion packs for £12.
Civ 5/6
Yes, large world. Yes, lots of time. Yes, will cause you to play through the night thinking "one more turn"
Doki Doki Literature Club.
That is one unique game.
This is pretty vague request. Most modern games are complex due to padding, Ubisoft releases are probably the worst offenders. In fact big open worlds are imho easier than their older linear versions, since you can often level up or out gear the difficulty.
Batman Lego and so on are probably a good choice if you want puzzles and simple stuff.
+1 came here to say this. Absolute best game ever made, bar none so might as well start gaming at the top 😃 (although it's actually slightly better on iPad than PC due to touch controls being better than mouse IMO)FTL. It’s got a lot to take on straight away in terms of control but after that it’s pretty plain sailing- hard but not massively complicated, if you know what I mean? And it’s fantastic.
Brutal learning curve (you will die a thousand deaths!) but not frustrating as you do a little better each time and actually half the fun of the game is figuring stuff out as you go (so resist the temptation to google and find out how everything works!!) Still play it every now & then despite having already completed it hundreds of times, there really (sadly) is nothing else quite like it or quite as good.
Banished, if you want a more gentle, civilisation-building game without any fighting. You'll wonder where your evening went......
Completed ABZÛ the other night. It was free on the Epic Store.

Very very very chilled diving game. Just explore, find stuff, see fish. There is a storyline to follow but nothing to kill you. All backed by mellow orchestral opera.
