I've lost my trusty Petzl Tikka. Useful for finding things in the shed in the dark, and even off-road running on a clear night.
Does anyone like DealExtreme make something of a similar size, but maybe bonkers bright?

I've got a cyba-lite headtorch with a pivoting head and a battery pack on the back with a small red light on. It's a good little light, wasn't expensive, but they don't seem to do that model anymore. The nearest I've found is this one:

I think DX do a headtorch, I certainly remember one, but I've not looked on their site for some time.

I'm a fan of the alpkit - for the price you can't complain, and it's more than bright enough for running. It even has a little red light at the back so other road users think you're a car very far away... 🙂

guess its the Alpkit then!

Problem with the DX one is it brings back to mind "****" jokes from school...

Yeah I'd recommend the Gamma too. Also Alpkit's customer service has been brilliant in my experience.

Well, I've ordered a cheapy alleged 270lm Cree Hong Kong import from ebay, and waiting to see if any of my local mates want to get the bulk buy from Alpkit. If not, I'll get one anyway.

Thanks.

The fenix HP10 is the brightest (max 150lumens) I've found @£50 but has a larger battery pack to accommodate the extra power required, so probably not ideal for running. The Alpkit one is very good with reasonable brightness especially at the price and small battery pack. That myo-xp is probably a good compromise (max 120lumens IIRC) and a small battery pack.

The lumens quoted should be looked at with some skepticism. All the ones quoted to you are a single LED and are spot. A headtorch with an arrangement of several LEDs might give a high lumen, but just as a weak flood and might not penetrate very well like a spot.. My Fenix HP10 and the myo-xp (I think) have a flood and spot option. Whatever it is, at 270Lumens I don't expect you'll be disappointed even if it's not quite that.
