the simpler/easy the better . just want to transfer to MP3 player for listening on long rides as I'm frustrated by limited podcast availability.
thanks in advance

Not quite what you asked, but the Beeb have MP3 podcasts of most of their shows.

If you're on a mac you theres a cheeky way to download streaming stuff in Safari - click window - activity and you'll see all the files on a given webpage, typically the sound or movie file will be the biggest one, double clicking that , or sometime control and clicking it will download it. Not sure if the PC version of Safari has the same facility.

The file itself won't typically be MP3 so you'll probably need to then convert it

If you have an iPhone or iPad you can install RadioBox which, amongst other things, allows you to record radio streams.

On an iPad, and I think on iPhone/iPod touch, TunedIn radio does just that, at least the cheap and brilliant full version does. Not sure about the free version.

I used to use Total Recorder, cheap but not free:

you should be able to use Audacity according to this:

I use Audacity all the time for recording anything you listen to on the PC, you also need LAME to convert it to MP3, a bit fiddly to set up but once done it's easy to use.

Audio hijack is really good but it's Mac only.

There's a free version and a paid one.

Radio Downloader automatically records the streaming feed from the BBC - there is a directory of programmes with series link available, and it converts to MP3.

I've used Total Recorder and Audacity in the past but this is much easier.

another radiodownloader user here. a little clunky in the search dept. but allows you to subscribe to a particular show or shows, then downloads automatically as new ones are uploaded to be available on iplayer. very useful. also works abroad where iplayer generally won't, fwiw.

BBC Radio player app records live radio (free as well).

Anyone know one that can record from iplayer?
