I don't know B'rum, but the family are meeting up for the graduation ceremony on Saturday.
Thought I'd treat them to a meal in a decent place, not some ghastly themed pub or Harvester (nor Michelin 1 star either) - somewhere in between.
Any thoughts?
Book. No idea what restaurants are good round there, but everyone else has the same idea during graduation week.
Its Brum not B'rum.
If the graduation is at Symphony Hall, then you're right next to Brindley Place, which has a lot of good eating places (like Bank). http://www.brindleyplace.com/leisure/whats-here/restaurants/
Alternatively (and at the opposite end of the scale) you're very close to the home of the Balti, so Ladypool Road would be calling me. http://www.alfrash.com/
All bar one is ok for a posh (expensive) sarny. Selly sausage for sone proper food. Casa italia is a bit out of town on the Hagley road near bearwood but is very nice
Thanks.
Keep them coming. I'll make some enquires from the links above.
PS - surely any word truncated ('tis, they're, we're, 'phone, it's (case in point!) etc) has the ' added.
Brum is short for Brummagem which comes from the same Anglo Saxon root as Birmingham, but is not a truncation. Ti'29-'er

It'll be on campus, but Brindley Place isn't a million miles away. There are a few places on Harborne High Street (closer still, not really walking distance though) that might be worth a look, maybe Buonissimo for a start?
Ha!
Don't kid yourself.
B'rum is short (a truncated form) for the city of Birmingham.
You only need view post after post, reply after reply to see that punctuation seems to be, at best, forgotten about in the interests of quicker typing.
In time we'll end up with all manners of horrors, some of which seem to creeping into some peoples' diction such as "gotten" and "gonna" being my personal "favourites".
Hey
Harbourne would probably be your best bet. There are several along there, but keep in mind it's busy on a Saturday. Try the Junction or Plough - both pubs, not themed - they both do good food. The Plough has good mid week lunch deals - not sure about Sat. Buisimo (sp?) is ok - opposite the Waitroise.
There are a few more expensive restaurant also. Otherwise you need to go into the city centre.
If you short of cash, check out the 2 for 1 offers. Martin money saving expert often lists the deals.

B'ham is the truncated form of Birmingham
Brum is actually short for Brummagem which is the 17/18 Century english for Birmingham
The apostrophe is used to indicate the omission of one or more letters. It works for all of your other examples but not B'rum - as others have said, that'd be B'ham. I didn't know about Brummagem, interesting.
>B'rum is short (a truncated form) for the city of Birmingham.
So wrong.
Wot nobtridler/ourkidsam said. Brum, Brummagem, B'ham. The apostrophes replace the missing letters (so if anything it'd be Brum', but that's bobbins, no-one ever uses that to my knowledge)
Oh, I'm a Brummie, btw :p
'fraid I can't help on the restaurant end of things tho', last time I lived there for anything other than occasional visits was circa '88 (and that was as a postgrad at B'ham Uni, for that matter) - every time I go back it's changed a fair bit.
Ah - Brindley Place is the bit near Gas Street Basin on Broad St, then ? - the OH and myself wound up there one Christmas eve (when our folks were still there). You'd probably find something reasonable - mebbe find a few names and search for web reviews ?
Edit:
a quick search
http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&q=restaurants+bristol+rd+birmingham&meta=&btnG=Google+Search
(there used to be a place on the w side of the Uni I'd been to, probably not there now)
- there's a Zizzi's in Harbourne (not that far away), a cafe/bistro just up the road:

- there's other places on the same site might be worth a look - White Swan mebbe - more of a gastropub.
