Afternoon...
I've just rekindled my love of climbing and will be going regularly again. I have also realised that my harness isaactually 17 years old so i reckon that it's time for a new one... What's good, comfortable and has enough gear loops for a decent rack?
Cheers

One that fits properly and is comfortable to hang in. I.e. go to a proper shop and try some!

When I bought my current one (Wild Country), I was rather taken by a Petzl one until I tried hanging in it - agonisingly uncomfortable.

Yeah, that's the plan, just thought I'd ask what's out there that people are using in the real world.

DMM Renegade.
Comfy, loads of loops, very adjustable.
And I trust it.

Try loads on, you never know what suits.

Sorry to be a pain, but it does depend on the type of climbing you will be doing.

I have a DMM Renegade harness, that I use for everything, indoor, single pitch and longday multi pitch trad, winter climbing and it gets worn for long period when instructing. Very comfy for me, with 7 gear loops for racking a large rack if need be. Adjustable legs loops so it fits whilst wearing thin trousers or bulky winter clothing. Floating waist band, so the belay loop/gear loops are always centred.

If you're climbing indoor/sport then you probably don't need adjustable leg loops (lighter/usualy cheaper) and probably don't need as many gear loops (lighter/more to choose from).
I have had Petzl Sama in the past for indoor/sport and also got on really well with it too.

Dont assume that more padding mean more comfort, it's not alway right.

Mostly indoor and sport rock with a fair chunk of single pitch trad climbing. My wild country synchro has been a great harness, but.... I really fancy a new one.

nothing to add beyond what's been said already - go and try them on and see what they're like to hang in

unless you want the ludicrous suggestion of a whillans harness 👿

If its sport and single pitch trad, I'd go for fixed legs loops and around 4 to 5 gear loops.
Petzl Sama is really good if its comfy. Doesn't have lots of foam padding so it is nice and breathable, but enough support to be comfy when being lowered/abseiling/working a route.
I would avoid ultralight alpine/mountaineering harnesses as the tend to be just webbing that and is meant to be worn over several layers for padding.

Petal Calidris here - hefty, but works as all day, hanging around, great with adjustable leg loops if winter or big hill climbs, not just cragging or indoors.
Also Edelrid uber light something in lovely yellow. Great as light cragging/ indoor thing, surprisingly comfy, but I can't say I have spent hours hanging in it, unlike the Calidris.

I have a Black Diamond Bod, used for multi-pitch, winter etc. Like the fact that you dont have to 'step' into it.
