I have just noticed that if one of my posts is quoted it shows my real name rather than my user name.
Is there an option in settings to make sure only my user name is shown?

Hmm, wasn't expecting that, I must've replaced my real name at some point in the past. Not much of a stretch to figure mine out anyway.

I knew this had been reported previously but, surprise surprise, a forum search failed to show any related posts.
I reported this months ago.
me too. I also pointed out (factually, not maliciously - haven't reported them or owt 😂) that this was a GDPR breach. They didn't seem fussed.

I reported this about the time of the new forum and to their credit mine was updated within about an hour.
A thought though.......might this place (and forums in general) not be a nicer place if posters had at least some real world accountability? I guess there are a few times it's nice to ask something with anonymity; but I don't discuss genital warts too frequently these days so would be happy enough to be identifiable.

I do think if everyone had to post on the internet under real names, it would be a much more pleasant internet and most of those foolish enough to type highly controvertial opinions/lies would soon see the error of their ways.
I think that those of us who posted under real names in the early days of the Internet realised it was foolish as some people out there have some strong views, probably won't agree with everybody and take it seriously to the point of getting in their car with the intention of sorting it out with fists (this caused much amusement on BM though it ended in a no show). Or use their hacking skills and harass via employer, wife, girlfriend or whoever (or just threaten to). Or sex pester (the girlfriend of a BMer I rode with had recieved unwanted attention 🙁 ). Happily I haven't seen any of that on STW since the hack.
I've posted more than enough information on this forum for people to find the non-virtual me if they really want to and want to waste a chunk of their life digging: The places I live, competition results, photos of the estate I live on, club jerseys, participation in events, subjects I've published on. It might be harder these days as I don't have a land line and now everyone is online there are hundreds of potential mes if not thousands .
Besides a well-chosen pseudo tells people more about me than my real name does, and almost everyone except Cougar remembers it. 🙂
