After five lots of surgery, tomorrow marks the last day of Radiotherapy for me. 29 sessions done, just one to go.
****ing cancer. Just a lump on my neck like a swollen gland.
Please, all of you out there check out your lumps and bumps.
Time for me to focus on recovery, getting back on the bike and getting strong.
Get well.
No sure if you believe in this but far eastern traditional medicine's advice is to avoid eating too much red meat, deep fried food, processed food, shell fish, prawn, crab, catfish related, stingray (White fish like haddock and cod are fine) eggs (can't remember if this is to avoid now), king of fruits like durian ... that's all I can remember now.
Thanks Chewkw
I'll consider that list careful although I'm a bit disappointed in the "no eggs, prawns & crabs".
Is this because they're all bottom-feeders?
My diet's not too bad, don't smoke, not much alcohol.
After 29 sessions I think you definitely deserve a break.
Hope that's the end of it, and good luck getting on with the rest of your life. Let biking be your therapy.

The reason I know because my cousin is having recurring intestine cancer. She will be operated sometime soon. She was advised to avoid "toxic" diet but she refused to listen.
From now on you need to be extremely careful of your diet. Yes, food will be dull but you will adapt to that taste.
Some beneficial root vegetable like Daikon/Chinese raddish should be included in your diet. This root veg is particularly good if you want to cleanse you internal system. BUT if you are taking medication and if you consume Daikon/Chinese raddish it will reduce the effectiveness of your medication. In the far east if a person is taking medication they will avoid eating Chinese raddish because it will wash everything out with your urine. i.e. trying boiling some with lean pork or pig bones to to make clear soup with Chinese raddish and drink it as clear soup (add seasoning to taste), then take note when you piss/urine and you will notice your urine is more smelly. This is because it will "wash" out everything good or bad from your system.
I was told chicken eggs should be avoided but duck eggs should be fine (expensive at £2.50 for six but they are large).
Watch out for chicken meat especially rooster but hen should be fine to some extend so consume in moderation. I cannot remember if duck is to be avoided. However, supermarket chicken meat cannot be distinguished between rooster or hen.
Yes, all bottom feeders best avoided as they are toxic.
Fish like bream, haddock family and cod family are fine but others such as mullet, stingray, shark, catfish or the Asian panganos (a kind of fresh water catfish looking like shark) are to be avoided. I can't remember if mackerel is in the list.
You diet will be dull from now on but at least you will be healthy put it this way.

This symptom is well known amongst the older far eastern generation. Usually any very small sign of such symptom will result in parents making herbal remedies to counter it. The symptom has to be detected at very early stage. Some will not be big swollen gland but when you run your thumb down both side of your gland and detect uneven surface like many internal pimples then that is the sign of the beginning of the problem. Usually, the traditional explanation is the body is full of toxi or the yang (positive) energy is too strong. ie. unbalance. My grand uncle used to be expert in treating this at the very early symptom but once it becomes big swollen gland it will be dangerous.
Good luck
All the best OP, hope you've kicked it's are!!!
Get your feet up, enjoy this sunshine 🙂
All done. Mildly grilled face and neck.
A wee rest I think and then time to start living a little!

Good Luck OP
Good work
...and as a result have now lost 28lbs! More than either of my bikes weigh by a significant margin.
Ridden a few times since the RadT finished, not easy yet. Still building up some strength (though it should help not hauling around unnecessary weight).
...and now a shameless plug for sponsorship.
It has been a pretty s**t year, but I am now back on the bike and riding Mayhem* next week as a way of thanking Macmillan. Please take a look and give what you can:

* I normally ride solo but have conceded to the influence of the missus and my general fatigue to ride in a team of five this year 🙄
Good luck & just donated. My MIL has just been diagnosed with breast cancer, in surgery on Thursday 🙁
Thanks for the generous donation Footflaps.
Best wishes to you both, it's a bloody awful thing but she can and will get on top of it.
Take care.
What was it out of interest? Hodgkins or somesuch?
Thanks Martin.
A Metastatic Squamous Carcinoma, with an occult Primary.
...Basically meaning there has been a small as yet undiscovered primary somewhere around my neck and thus far it has created two 'satellite' malignant lumps around my jawline / jugular. They've both been removed surgically and they've blasted the area with radiotherapy to kill the primary (from ear to ear and down to my collar bone).
Ah, I see. Makes my Hodgkins neck lump seem like child's play...
Hope you're not too knackered now - good luck in Mayhem.
