We have in our kitchen a four spot halogen light (not to either of our tastes but ....) that uses a 50w 240V GU10 bulb.

Can I replace this like any other sort of bulb (fitting allowing) with a more energy efficient bulb - possibly LED?

Yep. Take your pick from here

I've got warm white wide versions of these all over my house. Expensive to buy, but they use naff all electricity and are only slightly less bright than a regular 50W. Some will say they are way less, but in the real world they really are as good. IMHO.

be prepared to be totally underwhelmed with the amount of light - they will produce less than a 20W halogen. If you are OK with that then fine

50W halogen is around 1000 Lumen IIRC, 4 watt LED around 250 maybe a bit more

try these

I fitted some to a bank 6 months ago they "appear" to give more light than the GU10 halogen, but they are on 9hrs a day 6 days a week and they still work.
