Our car went in for some suspension work today and to have a slow puncture looked at in one of the rear tyres.

I've been told that the tyre cannot be repaired due to location of hole. Now ..... rear tyres are less than a year old. I have a spare tyre that I kept from when we had a tear in one of the fronts.

The spare tyre is likely to be a different tread depth to the remaining rear tyre - same brand but different model - again likely to be a problem?

i guess that the answer is to replace both but that isn't likely going to happen.

So ask garage to fit tyre we already have or fit new.

Help!

What would you then use as the spare?

Personally I would just stick a new tyre on.

How slow is slow (pump up once or twice a week) also quattro cars do not like different tread depths other than that no problem.

Just replace the one that's damaged.

The tyre is a spare tyre full stop in that the car doesn't have a spare whee. The tyre is sat in the garage without a wheel at present.

No 4WD here.

So use part worn tyre I already have or just get a new one - tread depth is likely to change regardless.

What size / £ are we talking about ? If it's < £50 for a brand new semi-decent tyre I'd probably do that.

Ah, of course. Silly me.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Either, stick the spare tyre on and be done with it. Unless you regularly explore the limits of grip the fact that it is mismatched shouldn't really matter.

OR, (what I would do)....get a new one of the same make/model on the other side of the car.
Keep the spare tyre.
When you need the tyres replacing across that axle, just buy one tyre - the same as the spare and get those fitted.

Fit the one you already have, that´s why you kept it right ? 😉
