Had a new bathroom fitted a while back and ever since noticed the quadrant shower we had fitted in the corners it always leaks. Ive re-done the silicone a few times on the outer edge but always get the same problem.
Ive finally got around to taking the the cubicle out and lifted off the tray and notice its only been siliconed on the outer edge of the frame ( No bead on inside) which I believe is correct but should there be a bead of silicone between the frame and the tile itself?
Any bathroom fitters/plumbers in here can advise?
Thanks
Manufacturers instructions vary a little but…
There should be sealant between tile and tray before installation, then sealant around perimeter of enclosure on the outside only (to allow any water that may get in the frame to drain to the inside).
In addition to that, 100mm vertically where profiles meet the glass and around the holes drilled into the tile before the profile is added to the wall. It’s also a good idea to seal the frame where sections meet if screwed together on site, they often leak here.
Most screens these days don’t ask for sealant behind the profiles and the tile. Some ask you to seal the inside, but leave the bottom 100mm to drain as described above.
