Has anyone bought a quadcopter for their kid (or themselves, I suppose) ? My nephew has asked for some rubbish looking flying globe thing, but a quadcopter seems like more fun to me. However, he's "only" a nephew so not looking to spend tonnes.

depends how much you want to spend - ebuyer have a tiny one that's about £17, it might end up wrapped and surreptitiously placed in my own stocking for christmas.

ebuyer was a good call. £24 for a Hubsan looks the ticket

Anyone flown more than one of these in the same room? Do the frequencies interfere?

My 7 year old bought himself the Hubsan nanocopter in the shop at the Science Museum for £30. It's very impressive but way too tricky for an under 10 to fly safely as it's very sensitive and doesn't have guards around the rotors so [s]if[/s] when you hit something they crash quite spectacularly!

Because he was rather deflated after trying to fly it, I ordered him one of these today Syma X3 which is much bigger and has guards around the rotors and gets good reviews.

I'm going to tell him that someone at work bought it but wants to swap for a nanocopter..

I've got a Hubsan, it's a lot easier to fly than a helicopter, but still quite difficult for kids under 10 or so - not impossible, and it does of course depend on the child in question. If you do get one get the guard round the rotor, as hughjayteens has pointed out.

Great value for £30, has to be said.

What Birky said the one from maplin is ace. Bought four (as gifts) after testing in store and having so much fun with it.

What ever you get just make sure that you can get spare blades (if they aren't shrouded) and at least one spare battery - the charge doesn't last long and we know only too well just how patient kids are...
