A comment of Stoners on another thread reminded me of a chap I met who's job it was to 'guess' where the market would go and drive corporate strategy accordingly. He got paid an absolute fortune for this job and as far as I could tell, was IN NO WAY measured on his ability to carry out his role succesfully. After all, if he was wrong three years down the line he could easily blame it on unexpected market forces or a hurricane or something. So he could have been rolling dice under the table for all we knew, and probably was.

So does anyone have a job like this? How do I get one?

I used to buy and sell oil/petrochemicals in much the same way. It's a pretty easy market to forecast, mostly, and you can mitigate it fairly easily, but as McMillian once wisely observed "Events dear boy..." I failed pretty spectacularly a couple of times... ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Not helped by my boss not paying the invoices...Mess around with not paying Huuuuge Petrochemical companies, that's a good idea.... ๐Ÿ™„
