I am after getting a punch bag for martial arts training and want to hang it in my garage.
Is it better to wall mount them of is it OK to hang from the rafters/beams?
I live in a timber frame house, and heard that if supporting a bag from the beams in the garage can rock the roof? Walls are breeze block so maybe thats a better option, just struggling to find a space as all the bikes are hanging from there!!
Wall mounted. its a lot of force to put through a relativley thin piece of wood if its hung from a ceiling. We had one in our basement for a few years, used to shake the floor and cracked the plaster in places.
The argos £20 wall bracket is perfectly adequate, use massive screws with those expanding thingummys to make sure it doesn't come out. A guy I know also over drills the wholes and fills them with silicone before screwing into them, to allow for a little movement. It makes sense but I'm not sure if all that is really needed!
Try to hang it on an outside wall as they can be really noisy, especially if if its a PVC/Leather one.
Yes hang it from the wall. Mine it outside on a wall and is fine if a little low.
I've got the same setup as you and mine is wall mounted in the garage. As above, go into B&Q, Homebase, Wickes, Screwfix etc and get some proper expanding screws. Mine were about £7 for a pack of 6. Takes some extra time to drill the deeper holes and screw them in properly, but I've been using mine regularly for a couple of years with no sign of the bracket moving.
