Royal Oak at Hurdlow. You will need to book. May not have a fire either. But the food will more than make up for it.

I haven't been for a while but The Grouse Inn near Froggat used to do a great Sunday lunch and has an open fire. Good Ales too.

It used to get very busy on a sunday with walkers etc. so booking would be advisable.

The Millstone in Hathersage was also good, although I can't remember if they have a fire.

Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow have a big wood burning stove and a fireplace as well I think.

The Beehive in Combs. You'll probably need to book though

Charles Cotton at Hartington has a lovely bar/bistro with a fire and some good ales. I've eaten there and the food was excellent.

I'll second the Royal Oak for food but don't remember a fire last time I went, although their website shows one.

oh and the Bull i' t' Thorn on the Buxton to Ashbourne road. I've had a few good feeds there, but not been in the last year or so.
