and if you missed that williams decided to burn down the garage in spain

celebrate a win brings new meaning to bringing the house down

edit ok they might not have "decided" to do it

Good programme. Crazy to see how dangerous it was back then. Couldn't believe those jumps on the Nurgburgring!

Very impressive drivers back then.

I can't imagine the mentality required to drive at your absolute limit knowing that if it went wrong you would be most likely be killed, or at least massively burned/injured.

If you thought that was crazy, watch this...

that was hard to watch, but well worth it.

problem: 185mph car + less safety kit than your average downhiller + less marshalling than your average xc mtb race
solution: spanner taped to steering-wheel

Wow. Thanks to the OP - just watched this on iPlayer. Amazing scenes from what was supposed to be "sport". Unbelievable!

I loved F1 through the late 80's and early 90's when I was a kid. The program really opened my eyes to a period that I was not to familiar with. It shows that we had not moved on too far from gladitoral Rome in terms of spectator sports. I thought the footage at the end of the1973 GP in Zandvoort was particularly tragic. I had never seen it before.

aye, that footage was especially tragic. one can't even begin to imagine the utter helplessness the drivers must have felt.

Watched it on the iPlayer last night. Colin Chapman didn't get painted in a good light did he?

If its the same one I watched a few years ago it deeply affected me and gave me sudden clarity to exactly what dangers they faced.

The image if the driver still in his car with his arms burnt away to bone. Then there was Tom Pryce distraught as everyone drove past 🙁
