With Google and Apple going their separate ways with the upcoming launch of iOS6, Google are releasing stand alone versions of their previously native iOS apps.
The YouTube app just got released, and is available to piss about with to give you an idea of what YouTube is going to be like in the future. Which, unfortunately, will involve advertising. Something the previous Apple built YouTube app did not have.

Yes yes so has iOS. From day one I believe. Do try to keep up fandroids. 🙄
But Apple and Google are now parting company - Google is no longer supplying the built-in Maps or YouTube apps and instead they are offering standalone versions.
Regardless of what platform you use, there's often little substitute for reading things.

Well. Who saw that coming, eh?
By the way, the mobile version of the YouTube website http://m.youtube.com is pretty good, works well in Safari and doesn't (yet) have adverts all over the place.
ok - I've downloaded it and will have a play.
One thing it wont tell me, is how integrated the new version will be into browsing.
Currently, When clicking on an embedded youtube video, it automatically takes you to the Apple app which is fine.
Anyone know if the new app will take over this feature, once the Apple app is dropped?
Remains to be seen AlexSimon.
I suspect it will work more like PDFs/Docs etc do, i.e. offer you a list of apps you have that are able to open the file.
