But 9 calls to check who called using 1471 cost £1.096 on this last bill.
Weren't these free before?

You pay if you use the callback option (press 3 in a 1471 call)

No button 3 was ever pressed afterwards.
It's just to see who's number had called if we didn't get to the phone in time and they didn't leave a message.

That's not what it says on the bill, I wonder if they will charge for the complaint phone call as well.

It doesn't show on the bill unless you press 3 and just by pure confidence 9 x 12.2p = £1.096
I use it at least once a day and never been charged.
