Possibly as far south as Manchester. Supposed to happen just after midnight (0038) as a load of ejecta from the sun hits the earths atmosphere.

Actually, it might be Friday morning - I've managed to confuse myself but I'll post if I manage to unconfuse myself.

Stargazing live on bbc2 btw

Edit: told you I was confused!

No chance of seeing it Brum

it happens, but not very often. When I left Brum in the mid 90s and moved to Scotland the northern lights sodded off down to Brum instead. A friend of my dads there is a radio ham and he was having fun with sending and receiving transmissions bounced off the lights and talking to folk further away than he normally could as the bounce helped get round the curve of the earth- all be it in weird ghostly whispers because only part of the signal would bounce.

Pissing down here in North Wilts. And I have seen Aurora down here, from the A4 a couple of miles from Avebury.
Incredible sight, only lasted about ten minutes, but unforgettable.

Have seen them once in Finland, was hoping to see them again this year when we were there over Christmas but it was too cloudy.

This year is the peak in a 13 year cycle (I believe).

Saw them once near Durham. Came out of the pub a bit happy & thought it was a laser show, thought 'wow, thats some laser!' Heard on the local news next day what it was.

It's one of the favorite memories that my son and I share, he was seven years old and we sat in the porch of the tent and watched a stupendous display whilst his mother and brother just wanted to sleep.

Link Scotroutes posted above shows the earth rotating towards it, updates every 30 seconds - worth a watch.

Loving that.
Dark green is nowhere near me though, fingers and toes crossed.
Going to set the alarm and put up with being tired later, it's worth it.

Working in Wick at the minute. Set alarm for 1am last night. Drove to the edge of town and saw no aurora despite being clear. Might try same tonight.

I'm at work tonight, situated in an residential area, Light pollution and houses immediately behind me, blocking the Northern horizon,
Despite the odds stacked against seeing them, I will be watching!

There was a glow off towards the horizon here in Glasgow, but as it was orange I think it was just a car on fire.

I headed up Ben Aigen in the hope of getting a couple of shots last night but no aurora ๐Ÿ˜

I did take a few shots that I'll try and remember to post up later, they looked ok on the back of the camera and Lightroom can work wonders ๐Ÿ˜‰

Off we go again. I woke 3 times and nothing (understandable as we are South Manchester, but we live in hope).

Will try again tonight. Is anyone else?

The line seems to be further out than this time last night.

Weather set to clear up later, I hope so.

AuroraWatch UK
Many of our subscribers are asking about the prospects of seeing ?#?aurora? tonight. The solar wind has returned to pre-CME levels so the chance of aurora is no higher than average (ie low, but not zero). Our alert system will send out alerts should activity increase to the level where we expect aurora may be seen from the UK.

Looks like I can treat myself to a cider after all.

We had a look last night but there was too much cloud. We did have a look at the moon through my son's Christmas telescope for the first time, and my son said "wow, I can see craters and everything!"
