Are 5.10 bike shoes substantially different from the approach shoes...

Rock and Run have the approach shoes for £35 at present. They stuck to my new pedal pins like shit on a blanket today.

Will find out. Guessing they won't be as stiff but ordered some anyway, managed to get them in the red mesh in my size. The other mesh versions have limited sizes, definitely worth having for hot weather, I have some DC's of a similar construction and they are brilliant.

Got a couple of pairs. They are a lighter construction than the bike specific ones, but the sole is just as sticky if not as thick/stiff.

I suspect they won’t last as well but they should dry a hell of a lot faster!

Thanks for that, got a pair. Went for half a size up as per their recommendation. Does that sound about right?

Ah yes indeed. They are small for the size. I got 10.5s instead of 9.5/10s usually.

The theory is thatv they are built for scrambling so are a bit snug.

Thanks, bought a pair 1/2 size up of the tan ones in PSA link for me, plus a pair of red mesh ones for same price at "normal" size for better half... Because as a veggie, she cannot eat the tan nubuck leather ones! 😮 😆

Just arrived, very snug fit with thin socks on going half size up, not sure (but haven't tried) they will fit with thicker socks. Feel likes it wraps around my whole foot and just walking indoors the grip feels good. Mrs NOTG happy with her mesh pair too.

So would going up one size be better you think?

What sort of fit across the toes, narrow/wide?

Thanks

Mine arrived, not keen, don't fit how i'd like. UK 11, fit a decent 10 if anyone wants for the £35+post.

Tan version

I bought 10's and I'm a 10/9.5 I like them - I'd never ride in them though spotted this a couple of weeks back but dont think its got any interest for biking just walking and approaching

i bought a pair of 11's and usually fit either 10.5 or 11. I tried them last night and they are somewhat tight with anything other than thin socks but tbh they are really best suited for warm weather use as they're so lightweight and I suspect will be great for dry summer use /hols etc.

I don't know what I was expecting but my mesh ones are really pushing my arches, moreso if the laces aren't properly tight. Will have another try and if they don't gel they're going back.

Does anyone know how they compare to normal 5.10s? I've had loads (biking and non biking - currently wearing a pair of Ascent approach shoes) and always been a 10, are they tighter than those?

I might, for casual shoes. Ok so I've just bought a different pair in similar colour but they'll keep. Are they narrow?

Re the biking in those - I've found in the past that shoes that have a wider bit of sole around the heel (like most trainers) are a PITA for cycling, because the wide bit catches on the chainstays. But that could be just me.

No, but normal 5.10s are standard UK sizes, so no need to size up.

Given the price and limited sizes, I'd assume they're a clearance item.
