Stuck at home, it's frustrating working off a single laptop screen when I have dualview monitors at work, so instead have to print far more stuff. Which in turn means saving the file to a stick, plugging the stick into the home PC, opening the file and then printing.

Is there a way to print to the printer over the wireless network, if the printer isn't directly attached to it but only indirectly through the Home PC?

Work PC -> Router <- Home PC <- Printer

You could, but I think you would have to make the printer available through the web. I cant remember how you do it, my dad normally does it as our CCTV e.t.c is viewable through the web with a password obviously.

If thats what you mean, but if thats not what you mean then I'm thinking just click add printer then connected to another computer on group I think it says then find it.

Yep you can "Share" the printer.

Got to the printer in "Printers and Faxes", right click, choose Sharing..

because the home PC is also the wife's 'work' PC

Off to have a fiddle with sharing.

You may have to log on to the pc connected to the printer before you can share it, which means (I think) that you'll need to set up users on that pc, with passwords. (may be easier to stick with the stick).

You'll probably need to open ports in whatever firewall solution you have to gain access from the interweb to your home pc. This will create fairly significant security issues as anybody will have access to your home pc through the open port/s.

Best way to do this is to create a VPN which creates a secure 'tunnel' from the internet through the router....but you will probably need extra software to do this..... a lot depends on what router your using.

@sharkbait: I think they are all on the same home network, from the ops diagram:

Work PC -> Router <- Home PC <- Printer

No need to touch firewalls or open anything to the rest of the Internet.

correct. And when I say it's the wife's work pc she is self
employed / home based so no sharing / access issues.
