Prince produced, arranged, composed and played all 27 instruments on the recording.
Not many artists can claim that for their first album.

MJ was a kiddy fiddler. And a mediocre musician with an impressive marketing team behind him at best. That's the truth, Ruth. Anyone who sez otherwise is in a river in Egypt.
Jacko mainly made quite safe pop music, agreed. BUT... Did you ever hear him freestyling, or beatboxing? WOW! Unreal stuff... Musical Genius for sure, just when it came to releasing records he always seemed to err on the side of caution.
Prince on the other hand, always made music for himself, and that I respect much much more... It's odd that whilst MJ was always in the media trying to get people to like him, pleading with the public for acceptance, Prince was always ultra quiet and mysterious... And MUCH cooler as a result!
