Hi

In the work secret santa I've drawn a guy who I know is a keen photographer. The limit is £10 so its not going to be a massive gift but just wondered if the photographers on here know of any gadgets/gimmicks that they've found useful in that price range.

I did consider one of those gorillapod things, but at £20+ for the DSLR version its a bit beyond me.

Any advice tips gratefully accepted

I;d get them a nice photography book for a tenner (not a "how to" but a book of photos etc) I'll post a few links in abit, need a cup of tea first!

What sort of stuff do they shoot?

If it has to be a gadget, the only sueful thnig or a tenner would be an sd card/compact flash raelly..

try to find out what camera they have and then search for accessories on ebay - loads of super cheap stuff from hong kong etc.

screen shade
neoprene camera case
lens pen

I'd say either Photobox vouchers so the person can get reprints, a lens cleaning cloth or a memory card. Not a lot you can get for £10 in relation to camera bits. If you decide on a memory card, find out what they like to shoot & if it's generally action stuff go for a faster, lower memory card, rather than one with lots of memory but really slow read/write times.

Does he use a Nikon camera? Depending on the model, you can get the Nikon infra-red remote from eBay for ~£12 or so. The camera has to have a built in receiver though for that particular one to work. I know it works on the D60 & the D80.

the best gift i received that was cheap was my hotshoe spirit level 🙂

lens cloths are good, plus you can find genernal photography books on line fo a tenner, not just the how too/understanding books but some inspiring collected works, just search amazon 🙂

Pentax do some snazzy coloured designed lens cleaning cloths, if you are looking for something a little bit different.

They are not bad either.

As mentioned above, Lenspen / rocket blower / hotshoe spirit level are all useful gadgets that won't break the bank.

Lenspen in particular is a fab bit of kit

Another vote for rocket blower and lens pen. I took my own advice and gave those 2 plus a cloth and it all came to 20 quid.

One more idea, how about a camera beanbag, these are very good

Use mine a lot and know I would be well pleased with one as a gift
