Anyone got any experience of replacing the acrylic glazing in a shed or potting shed? Ours needs replacing and I have a few questions…the window is approx 1830mm wide x 1130mm high. When reseating the new window in place is the stuff to use a silicone adhesive sealant? Also where the wooden battens have to fitted on the outside to hold the window in place is it best to pre drill the holes for the screws in the acrylic glass? If so what’s the best drill bit type to use and is there any recommended screws for this?
The potting shed is like this one https://gardenshedsforsale.ie/index.php/our-sheds/potting-sheds/6ft-x-6ft-potting-shed
I wouldn't drill the acrylic unless you really need to. Silicone in place and use wooden beading nailed to frame to secure it in place. If you do have to drill it then use masking tape and start small.
I have done this. I used CT1 to glue it then carefully drilled the holes for screws using a normal bit (not a wood bit), rest the sheet on wood and don’t force it. Drill the hole larger than the screws you’re using and use a large washer just tightening enough so as to seat to the sealant and not strain or distort the acrylic.
The hardest bit is cutting the sheet for which I used a fine blade and slow speed jigsaw on a sacrificial piece of plywood.
