If you wanted to host and link to a sound file on the forum how would you go about it?
Are there sound hosting sites (free) that would allow you to host a small sound file and then be able to present it within the post in the same way as you might host a picture. Ie the sound file can then be played within the post rather than clicking through to another site or downloading.
The sound file in question would be .WAV

SoundCloud will do that. I’ve never uploaded there (I presume you need a free account) but it comes with a widget that embeds the track into forums etc.
Hmm something a bit more fuss free would be better - the same functionality as something like imgbb.com - just drop file into the site and past the derived link onto the page.
I mean,
Any file can be linked to, a URL is just a string of text. If you want it embedding then that would require the forum embedding software to support whatever hosting site you've chosen and pull in some form of media playing widget. What sites they may be if any, I do not know.
STW idiosyncrasies aside, I'm sure such "embedded audio" sites must exist but I can't think of many. SoundCloud as above would have been my first guess.
Yeah, exactly that. That's just C&Ping the URL rather than me doing anything clever with embedding code.
