We will be in touch
Motorcycle is being a little temperamental in the cold so I fancy one of these little portable jump starter doohickeys.
Any one have one? Any recommendations?
Cheers!
Paul
I have one of these, various uses as a standard 5v power pack, but will also deliver a few hundred amps at 12v when required to start a car/forklift...
Small enough to take with you on your bike as well!

These little things are WAY better than they ought to be. Started plenty of vans etc at trackdays.
Anyone got one they use on 3 litre diesel engines? A lot seem to have a lower limit.
Got one of these:

Starts a 5.7l V8 petrol a few times on a single charge with no issues. Can crank it over enough to pump fuel from the second tank as well before starting it!
cheers 🙂
I think Lidl are doing them this week including one of those very small portable ones
I have one of these as battery failed on my motorbike the other day.
Its the Noco GB40 I bought it on a Black Friday deal. I have used it to start my track bike and it had no problem at all.
I've had one of those Phaze ones from Halfords for a couple of years now (see pic in Kayak's post above). It's been used a few times and has performed well. Says it's okay for engines under 2,000cc, and seems to hold charge for a good while before it needs topping up.
Old school technology containing lead acid batteries, but relatively cheap compared to the newer smaller lithium versions, robust and will do the job. Size and weight count against it. I keep it in the garage or put it in the boot of the car.
Would probably go for something more portable for a bike unless it's to be kept in a garage/house.
I have a smallish Ring lithium one, it's fantastic on my car, but won't turn over a 3l beemer. It does lose a little charge with time so take it out the boot and charge up every now and again.
I had one of the lead acid ones for a while. Started a 2l diesel fine but eventually died.
I struggle to make the maths work on those "800 amp" lithium packs. Even with six by four 3Ah cells (so six cells in parallel) that's 133A per cell. None of the lithium cell manufacturers makes anything rated anywhere near that. Tesla's 750A (for 10 seconds) pack uses 74 cells in parallel.
You can get cells that can provide 30C (30 x Ah capacity) instantaneously now.
However I agree a lot of the claims are exaggerated.
Truth is though you probably only need 200A and I have seen tests where the packs can manage that.
Cheers chaps - went for this one in the end...

Its only for the bikes, so it doesn't have to be the largest output.
I liked this one as it uses a USB charger.
