You don't waste money on cars, you just spend money on them instead of something else.

Could've been. Not how I found out about it, but November would have been about the right time.

I'm not going to comment on the car choice as I've no experience but in reference to the price argument. It would be interesting to compare the depreciation/saleability of a Porsche verses some jap crap once WCA gets bored and wants rid of it? I bet the Porsche make more sense to buy for a short period as a toy.

I've heard some pretty horrific stories of 350z repair and part prices. I doubt they're better than the Porsche.

Daffy, how much was it?

Also whats the tax/insurance/mpg like

The only reason I ask is that Mrs FD would let me swap my Mondeo for some thing like that, but not an Elise/Westfield !

Sub £16k, Tax £465, 27-28mpg on my 20 mile commute, £580 insurance. Sub 20 if you cane it, 30+ on the motorway.

It's pretty comfortable on long journeys (more so on the original wheels) and faily docile at low speeds.

£16.5k. Almost everything at the same time was over £18k with much higher mileage and all in the same black/blue/red colours. Fortunately I was actually looking for a Sepang Coupe.

Lovely car daffy, CSLs look great, not sure on the roof though. Hell of a lot of car for £16k.

Go for a 986 3.2. Have not looked at prices for a while, but presume at your budget you are looking more at the original 250hp version. Perfectly good power in a light car, although earlier interiors were a bit plastically if solid. Without stating the obvious buy on condition rather than mileage. Regarding options, full leather sports seats are a must as are 18 inch alloys - but watch out for the split rims - can corrode very easily. Full leather interior is even better. The 3.2 then had a mid life facelift and power increased to around 265hp. Better interior etc.

The 987 S came along in around 2005. Power increased to 276hp (the same in the heavier 350Z, and a much improved interior. More importantly IMHO steering feel greatly improved. The S then increased its power to 296hp and finally 310hp which still in a light car will spank most things.

The Old Man's 987 and 986 S's. The 2003 S is the 263hp face lift 986.

Friend has told the wife that the Boxster is an Estate Agents car and that she should make me buy a 911!

Can you imagine how much arm twisting she will need to do.

"are you above estate agents in the food chain?"

Everyone is surely? Well except tabloid journalists.

Be prepared for quite a budget jump then.
A decent boxster can be had for £10k but even for a Knackered 996 coupe with mega miles on it you'd be paying 13-14k.

Check autotrader 2001 911 Cabrio for 15K. There are a couple of dozen. Spend some time on proper sites and 15K gets something reasonable.

I am just loving the experience of my wife telling me to spend more. I was originally looking at a ratty MX5 for 3-5K which became a Boxster at 7-9K and is now a 911 at 14-15K.

My wife is brilliant and I love her lots.

Nothing I'd want to buy at that price.

Don't do it, 10-13k buys a lot of Boxster for that money, but a tired 911 cab, unless you are very very lucky.

Do you feel lucky punk, well do yeh?

I'll sell you an astra 1.6 52 plate for 15k? Better than all the above mentioned cars....
