Is pork-pie pastry quite pie-specific? I've never seen on another kind of pie. If it is, why?

On a related subject I have only once seen carrot-cake icing on another kind of cake. Again, why? Might try it next time I make a beetroot cake.

It's a hot water pastry that is specific to hand raised pies, so pork pie, game pie etc.
