Well do they?
Saw it on the back of a security can today and made me wonder if the police really waste their time following security vans around.
Do they?
It just has a GPS tracker on it, thats all.
Well that's crap isn't it.
I spent a good five minutes looking around for the police, wondering if that BMW behind me was unmarked or just a knobber.
Not really truthful advertising is it. Police follow this van on a computer screen, would be better.
I've spent many hours stuck behind and following those vans and always wonder if its 'Police follow this van' or should it be 'Police, follow this van'. I think I need to spend less time on my own on the road 😐
I always assumed it was the latter. Makes a lot more sense now you put it like that.
A more truthful sign would have read "Quirrel is following this van, he looks nervous"

Well, I never. Same here. So it's informing, not instructing! I've wondered for years 😀

Sometimes. Especially if there's been a lot of cash in transit robberies
It's Police follow this van. Rather than asking to follow
[edit]oh that's been said already[/edit]
I've seen police follow these sorts of vans on many occasions, esp in the run up to Christmas.
I always thought it was a bit rude, y'know, coppers hate being told what to do!
Though I saw a pharmacy delivery van that had a sign saying this van operates 0830-1800. Please pull over this van outside of those hours. Good for security, but annoying if you're late off, its 1815 and the fuzz keep puling you over!
😆wondering if that BMW behind me was unmarked or just a knobber
Saw a police car following a van once, blue lights etc, van stopped outside bank, and out slid a ratheer fat police lady, looked like a telly tubbie on pies, what use she would have been against a few robbers i dont know, perhaps the shock of seeing her would make them go into fits of hysterical laughter.
Full suport for the CIT staff they do an excellent job, for little pay compared to the risk they take every day.
CIT= cash in transt, learnt that of Crime watch.
Maybe the vayn has it's own Twitter feed?
my mate is a mobile tyre fitter, his van has a 'police follow this van' sticker on it.
just thought i'd add that 😐
With the run up to Christmas, a lot of Police Forces dedicate Officers to stay with cash in transit's as the amount of robberies or attempts increases.
It's pretty normal and I'd imagine that most forces do it this time of year.
I know first hand that Lanc's does.
I think they'd be better off having a sign saying 'Police, do not under any circumstances follow this van'.
Security vans should also have stickers saying "no cash left in this van overnight".
Apparently it stop thieves breaking into them.
I was always under the impression it was a request. Much like the old vehiclewatch stickers you could get for your car that said "police stop this vehicle" - participating in the scheme roughly meaning you're happy for the police to stop the vehicle if it's moving about at an odd time of night or acting oddly. Id have thought it was the same for these - a legitimate driver will not flee at first sign of a tail, but a theif would give the game away. Could be wrong though.
I've driven those vans and never saw a police car following me. 🙁
There's a bakery van that's driven by a neighbour with a sign on it that reads
"No cakes left in this van overnight"
The Securicor ones have big identifying marks on the roofs for the helicopters to see, but I don't think they follow hem around all the time.
A relative of mine is in the Armed Response and when they arnt eating donuts they do occasionally follow security vans around, they also double as traffic cops.
Have you seen the ones that say 'No tools in this van. Except the driver'?
